Bidrage med feedbackA cosy and comfortable traditional pub with excellent food. Staff are friendly and accommodating. They cater for food allergies and vegetarians. (If you phone 24 hours before dining more choice would be available). Only disappointment was the cafetière was weak. Luckily the espresso was excellent. Dogs allowed, biscuits available. An unexpected little gem.
Visited this evening while on holiday locally having been recommended. From the outside, it doesn't look up to much, but inside is quaint and cosy, with a friendly welcome. From the varied menu, we had gammon, mushroom and red pepper stroganoff and pizza (made to order with choice of toppings). All fresh and very tasty. For pudding we had a rhubarb crumble, chocolate brownie and a waffle with peanut butter ice cream and Nutella. Again, all delicious. Helpful waitress offered suggestions for things to do in the local area. We hope to return during our stay for another meal.
Lovely friendly little pub, popular with locals but also very welcoming to visitors. Good above average very tasty food using locally sourced meat such as Welsh lamb and beef. Highlights for us were the Welsh lamb shank and gorgeous shepherds pie with plenty of nice chunks of local meat and the homemade apple crumble. Pizzas also hand done from scratch with toppings made to order which we didn 't have but heard the impressed comments from the next table! You can order a 'pizza and a pint ' which was very good value. The food is all very good value we thought. There are vegetarian options which also looked good such as mushroom and red pepper stroganoff. Dogs are welcome and they even have a jar of doggy biscuits on the bar. It 's a small but cosy pub with a nice feel to it. It can get busy at weekends as there aren 't a lot of tables as it 's a small village pub, so would strongly suggest booking a table. Reasonable amount of parking space and a nice peaceful garden area which has one 6/8 seater wooden bench on the grass area and another plastic table on the tarmac area. Suggestion for the owners...it would be nice to have another one or two smaller tables or benches as well as the big long one on the grass area. We noticed a separate room off from the main pub which was set up as a children 's play area with toys etc and looked like a nice addition. We were visiting the area and staying here so ate here on several nights as it was so good. Breakfast was also very good. One of the best we 've ever had. Would highly recommend. They are trying really hard with this pub and deserve to do well.
I visited The Black Lion with 4 other girls on a Tuesday evening and we really enjoyed it! The man behind the bar was very helpful and friendly. I had the lasagne and it was delicious but unfortunately I couldn 't finish it because it was such a generous portion which was very reasonably priced!! My friend has the 'Make your own pizza ' and nonce of us were expecting it to be that big and she loved it! She couldn 't finish it so we took the rest home. The atmosphere in the pub was a nice and friendly. I definitely would visit there again if I was staying in the area or even just passing through.
Very cramped eating area, left waiting at bar for a time as barman doubled as the waiter. When our Sunday lunch arrived meat was cold, left sitting on plate to long in kitchen, bowl of veg very sparing, certainly not enough for two people, and frozen Yorkshire puds!! Decided to have a pudding, as we were both still hungry they only had a choice of two, plus ice cream, when I asked why they served only two, which by they way were the same two as most of the other pubs in the area serve, I was told it was for convenience, plus I only had the choice of cream with it. Will not be returning, was a poor show, I like to feel I've had a good Sunday lunch, not go home hungry.
