Drive through the ornate traditional Chinese gateway (paifang) and you will arrive at Chan's Canton Village. Adorned with red neon lights, the entrance features a tiled archway in red and green, leading to a red brick building with flat roof and windows equipped with air conditioners. Upon entering, you will find a vestibule filled with photographs of owner James Chan OAM with various notable Australian politicians and public figures. The restaurant, which was once the largest Chinese restaurant in Western Sydney, showcases a collection of photos spanning forty years from both sides of the political spectrum. The dining room, with a capacity for 280 people, is beautifully decorated with intricate wooden archways, elaborate ceilings, and golden painted poles. White tablecloths cover round tables equipped with wooden lazy Susans. The ambiance is enhanced by traditional Chinese music playing in the background, eventually transitioning to classical tracks and bird calls from outside. Specializing in Hong Kong cuisine, the Cantonese menu offers unique dishes not commonly found in other Chinese restaurants in Sydney. Highlights include the Four Treasure Soup, Chicken Fritters, Chan's Special Fried Rice, Chilli King Prawns, and Mandarin-style Special Fried Pork Ribs. The restaurant offers a fork and spoon dining experience, lacking chopsticks. Overall, Chan's Canton Village provides a memorable dining experience in a suburban setting, making a casual weeknight dinner feel special.
"The food was really good, the service was quick and friendly. They have convenient parking. The young lady at the reception was very helpful and the prices were reasonable."
