Russian Banya/ Volga - Carrollton

A few friends and I decided to explore new restaurants in the area opposite Dallas, and this was our first and only Russian restaurant on the list. We were not disappointed! This was my first time at a Russian restaurant, and I had no prior knowledge of Russian cuisine. We asked our server for recommendations, only ordering what they would choose themselves. We followed their suggestions, enjoyed some wonderful Georgian wine, and spent the latter part of the evening chatting with the chef and his wife, who had meticulously prepared our entire meal. We even got a tour of the banya, learned about Russian history, and were captivated by their warm hospitality. We loved it so much that we brought friends back the following Saturday to share the experience of the culture and delicious food. Bravo!

The food was delicious, and our server was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed every recommendation he made.

The experience was disappointing. The service was quite poor. There were three of us dining, and there was at least a 10-minute wait between when one of our meals arrived and when the others were served.

That was our first visit to the Russian banya. we will definitely come back. recommend the Russian beer,

The dumplings were very good, the pork kabobs were chewy, but seasoned well. The chicken Kiev was well executed but the frozen vegetables on the side were soggy/underdone. We requested water halfway through the meal (after finishing our beers) and never got it. It wasn’t busy, and there were two servers. The ambiance was strange, red plastic tablecloths and lots of fake chandeliers and a sparkling stage. My husband lived in Russia and said it was pretty authentic. The waiter rang my order up incorrectly and didn’t give me the full value of my groupon we were using. They didn’t provide a bill before us paying via credit card, so I didn’t realize it till later. We probably won’t return.
