La Dona Mexican - CAPE MAY

Every year we have a good meal here. The salmon special was as good as you can get any any great restaurant. Nice staff too.

I would give this review zero stars if I could. Let me start my saying that I have eaten at this restaurant two times (each time that I 've been to Cape May with my husband). We have always had a pleasant experience. My husband, my toddler daughter, and I are vacationing in Cape May this week and wanted to enjoy this restaurant with our daughter as is our tradition. When we arrived, we were told that there was no table available. I then asked, no table? Even if we wanted to wait? I was then told 45 minutes. I immediately felt like this was strange because a restaurant would never simply say no, no matter how long the wait is...they would just tell you how long the wait is. My husband and I walked away for a moment but felt unsettled. We had a hunch that it had something to do with the fact that we were with our daughter. We decided to walk back towards the restaurant and saw a couple walk up and were told that it would be a couple of minutes to be seated. When we confronted the hostess about it, she claimed it was because there was no room to place the high chair. When I pointed out an empty table, she claimed that there was no room for the high chair, even though another employee overheard and said, it looks like there is room. At that point, we definitely did not want to eat at this restaurant. The hostess continued to say that there is no room for the high chair. If there is room for a chair, there is room for a high chair. Needless to say, this restaurant is not child friendly. There are plenty of other restaurants in Cape May for you to enjoy. Take your money elsewhere.

It use to be better when you could get the shredded beef tacos. Get the guacamole and chips.

We have come to this pretty spot many times and we have enjoyed the fajitas, the Carne Asada and the churros especially. Our kids love their quesadilla and chicken tenders. The owner and the staff are very charming and we always enjoy our visit.

Wanted this to be a good restaurant but was completely underwhelmed. Very pricey for the portions you get. Seriously, when I pay $25 for a chicken dish, give me more than a tablespoon of rice and beans. Skimpy portions on every other plate we ordered, as well. Not only were the portions small, but the food was Far from memorable. Bland chicken, bland vegetables and basically bland all around. There are many choices in Cape May for this price point that offer better food. We won't be back.
