La Casina Delle Rose - CAPANNORI

Although not inside the wall or in downtown Lucca, the La Casina delle Rose is a wonderful restaurant to eat at. There is a centuries old aqueduct running next to the restaurant and it is a terrific view both in the daytime and at night. The restaurant was packed, both outside and inside on the Friday night we were there. Service was good, the staff (a mixed bag of younger and older service folks) was on their game and handled the large crowd of clients with skill and a minimum of downtime. The food was excellent, and for Lucca, priced quite reasonably. My steak was so tender I cut it with a fork. The pasta dishes were also excellent as was the vino roso house wine. Definitely a do again especially with guests arriving in early September. jr

Visited this restaurant twice, lunch and dinner Lunch. Very good value, quality very good for the price especially pizza and liver the latter being well seasoned Dinner, abundant prima pasta which was average but the sea bass was excellent. I would not recommend the mixed fried fish. It is a very busy restaurant both at lunch and dinner so does become very hot, the service is professional and friendly within the limitations of time. Would visit again for a well priced reasonable meal.

Friendly staff and traditional wood fired meat and pizza's which tasted delicious!

Firstly this restaurant offers excellent value for money.... there are 2 fixed price menus, one fish and one meat €15 and €13 and this includes a bottle of wine. The food was reasonable. But I can't say they are particularly welcoming of tourists, it seemed like hard work for them to deal with foreigners. Most strange was when a bottle of water and a bottle of wine was delivered to the table along with 2 glasses, we asked for 2 further glasses so we each could have a glass for wine and a glass for water. Another lady was summoned over and there was lots of murmuring before they both walked away. We would have helped ourselves to more glasses from the service station behind us except for the big sign that says it is forbidden to take extra glasses and only staff can hand them out! Anyway the next lady who passed by our table got the glasses we requested.

Went here with my friends for an informal dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The menu is vast but with very simple and tasty selections. Both the meat and fish option are well-made, big in portion and very cheap. The house wine is good and the staff is very cordial and professional. The location is a bit out of the city but very scenic and very homey. I’ll definitely be recommending this!!
