Bidrage med feedbackWe visited this restaurant for lunch and found the food to be very delicious and reasonably priced, right on Canterbury's High Street. I especially enjoyed their Ploughman's cheese lunch, which featured a fantastic baguette with a warm, crispy exterior and soft interior, along with two types of cheese, a mini salad (lettuce and tomato), and a few garnishes, all for under £7. My husband also appreciated the Hunters Chicken and the locally brewed beer on tap. Just a heads up, the interior has a music theme rather than the traditional pub style we initially anticipated, but it was a very enjoyable atmosphere.
We left before the bar’s lively evening music scene kicked in, but even at around 5:00 p.m., it was a friendly stop for travelers with large backpacks, a common sight in Canterbury given its rich history. I enjoyed a substantial vegetarian plowman’s lunch featuring local cheese that included a cheddar and chutney combination sure to linger in my dreams. Paired with a robust British scrumpy cider, the meal was a steal at about twelve pounds. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the clientele was approachable. The jukebox played a more diverse selection than many other punk bars, serenading us with tunes from David Bowie (sad face) and Motorhead (double sad face) courtesy of a musician fresh from a nearby recording studio. The music was lively, but there were no distracting TVs around. While I wouldn’t specifically recommend this place to my parents, it’s definitely a great spot to enjoy a good meal and a refreshing drink in a laid-back environment.
Great food and a unique atmosphere! The prices are reasonable for the menu offerings. I highly recommend this spot. Plus, they offer free WiFi!
One of my favourite pubs in Canterbury, and probably the most well known Rock Metal Pub in the area, I love the Lady Luck and its team of friendly staff. My first ever visit here was after a long day at college for one of my friend's gigs and I eventually wound up going back weekly with my friends to try different items on the menu and watch various gigs or just to play pool. The bar staff are friendly and happy to have a chat if they're not too busy; the atmosphere is great as is the music being played from the juke box if there's not a live band on and the food is cooked brilliantly. The Luck have some damn tasty vegan options on their menu that I'd recommend to even the most dedicated meat eater! I believe they also hold vegan foodie meet ups here too which is awesome as I know there isn't a lot of stuff like that going on locally. Emma also puts a lot of time into booking loads of different acts to play and is a big player in the local drive to keep Kent's Music scene going. Overall, I'd pick this place time and time again over the others nearby whether it's just for a quiet drink, a snack or a full on meal, to see live acts play or as part of a night out.
The Lady Luck is an alternative rock pub at the bottom of Canterbury highstreet. I visited on a Friday evening so my review will be based on my experiences of that night. Appearance: From the outside you can tell the Lady Luck is an alternative pub as the front is painted black with nautical stars on the sign. To the left of the door there are several tables and chairs provided for those of us who still choose to smoke. The atmosphere: When me and my friend first arrived it was just past 9pm on a Friday evening and apart from a few couples and regulars we were the only people there. The jukebox was pumping out rock music and the bar staff looked surprisingly like characters out of Pirates of the Carribean. As the night progressed the pub began to fill up and at one point there was a queue to get in that went outside the door. The pub itself is not that big but the size of the bar really does need to be bigger to avoid queues. As you walk into the Lady Luck you are met by the bar, and then an open space that leads into two snug rooms, one of which contains a pool table. Staff: The bar staff were really friendly and had a decent chat with you as they served you your drinks. One suggested I have white sambuca whilst a regular suggested I go for black. A detailed analysis of the best type of sambuca followed, much to my amusement. There were 3 bar staff and one guy on the door who I am pretty sure was Captain Jack. He was very friendly and made sure that the louts who were walking past did not come in. Drinks: I spent most of that night drinking Jack Daniels and coke. A single was £3.30 and a double was £4.85. A shot of sambuca was £2.20 and there jugs of cocktails are £8 which is very good value when split between two people. I can recommend the 'Alligator ' cocktail which is in a big jug and is basically neon green. I cannot remember what was in it but it was very very refreshing. Overall: I managed to spend 5 hours in the Lady Luck without getting bored, the people are friendly and the atmosphere is chilled out, apart from when a heavy metal tune comes on and people get a tad mental. The prices are not bad and are similar to any other pub in Canterbury. I think more people need to know about the Lady Luck pub as the clientele are not just rockers and you don 't have to be 'alternative ' to visit. I am giving the Lady Luck 5 stars as it was an incredibly enjoyable evening and I will be going back very soon.
