Bidrage med feedbackFour of us shared the Beijing roast duck (approx. $90) and were unanimous in deliberations afterwards that this was probably the best Peking Duck experience we have had. The accompanying soup, using the remaining duck portions, with either noodles or rice was a more than satisfactory conclusion to the meal. For us, as we agreed, this was not an expensive meal, although we felt that the wine listed was rather expensive. Overall, though, a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience and certainly a restaurant we would recommend.
Visiting Canberra with friends for the weekend, both couples very fond of roast duck, noticed a sign on this restaurant in passing and made a booking. The menu features an option of a whole Beijing styled roast duck for 89.90 (for 4) accompanied by pancakes, ho sin sauce and vegetables. Followed by a duck clear soup and choice of either fried rice or noodles both with duck. The roast duck breast fillets are served on two large platters the meat was moist, flavorful and tender with crisp skin. Pancakes beautifully cooked and presented. When you have eaten the duck the soup arrives in a large bowl to share very tasty accompanied by the duck noodles. Wine list comprehensive but reasonably expensive known brands at 100% mark up however, this was easily compensated by the duck feast which in our experience was very good value for . Service, friendly and efficient, without being intrusive. I rarely give 5* rating for a restaurant mainly because this is such a subjective test however, on this occasion both couples, who are reasonably well traveled could not find any fault with this dining experience. To start, the wrong wine was brought to our table. When the correct wine was finally brought, it was poured so roughly that wine spilled onto the table cloth and plate. We ended up pouring our own wine to avoid making a mess. Various dishes arrived, but they were not what we had ordered. The waitress even insisted that one dish was the chicken dish we had ordered, which was not the case at all. Rice bowls were provided halfway through our meal, after we had reminded the staff twice that we wanted rice. We hurriedly finished our meal and left for the theatre, as we did not want to risk ordering dessert or ice cream there instead. The food we did receive was good, but the restaurant really needs to improve its service.
I have dined at this restaurant multiple times and have never been disappointed with the consistently excellent food. The only downside may be the slow service, so it may not be the best choice if you are on a tight schedule, such as for a pre-show dinner.
I have always considered restaurants that have pictures on the menu as omes to be avoided. I honestly dont know how they were judged best asian restaurant in Australia. The criteria did include fitout, presntation, etc. but when the sparkling mineral water is the best thing on the menu . . .
