Bidrage med feedbackThe service was quite friendly. Since I was pretty hungry and perhaps a bit too ambitious with my choices, I opted for the Homemade Spring Rolls with Duck, which came with sweet chili sauce. The rolls were golden, plump, and crispy, although they could have used a little more time on a paper towel to reduce the slight oiliness. That said, they were still delicious. I also ordered the Lamb Shanks, which were cooked perfectly. The meat was tender, practically melting in my mouth and falling off the bone. It was served with mashed potatoes, peas, vegetables, and gravy—an excellent dish that definitely offered great value for money.
If you're in the Inner West and looking for a new local pub, look no further than the Alfred Hotel. It has been undergoing several changes in recent months, with more exciting developments on the horizon for the new owners and the local community. Upon entering, we immediately noticed how cozy the Alfred is, thanks to its welcoming open fire and laid-back atmosphere. One of the significant updates includes the arrival of new Chef Jamie Dyball, who has revamped the menu, and we were eager to embark on his culinary adventure.
The Alfred is a charming pub featuring a cozy outdoor courtyard. The main attraction here is their talented chef, Jamie, who elevates traditional pub fare into exceptional dishes, all while keeping prices in line with classic pub standards. During our recent visit for a menu tasting, we enjoyed a variety of offerings. I particularly loved the crumbed chicken thigh paired with blue cheese sauce, as well as the herb and parmesan gnocchi. However, the highlight for me was the Alfred’s surf and turf, which combined smoky BBQ brisket with coconut-crusted prawns. The meat was incredibly tender, and the purée and steamed kale made excellent accompaniments. If you happen to be around on a Sunday, their roast is a must-try—there’s a reason it’s a classic, especially with the addition of a Yorkshire pudding! Be sure to stop by for some fresh and fantastic food.
The Alfred Hotel Camperdown offers a great pub feed at a very good price. The food is prepared from scratch, using fresh seasonal ingredients. The Alfred Hotel is in a prime location next to the Prince Alfred Hospital, close to Sydney Uni and the happening suburb of Newtown. The Pub has a nice deco facade and is neatly presented from the exterior. The interior looks like most other pubs with the bar front and centre, there is a courtyard and a sports bar making it an ideal place to watch some sport, have a few ales and enjoy a meal. The Alfred has new owners, having already made inprovements by employing Chef Jamie and have not stopped there, they have added an ever changing boutique beer and cider selection and there are plans for renovations which is sure to make this pub a must visit destination.
I visited roughly between 12.45-1.30pm, Wednesday the 14th of December, 2016.<br/ Can't complain with their $14 steak lunch special.<br/ <br/ The interior of the bistro was spacious and air conditioned. Fairly quite crowd inside as well.<br/ <br/ So it felt like a fairly relaxed pub (which i do like, for lunch time .<br/ <br/ Full kudos to the bargirl who served me as well (in the front ground level bar , and kindly took my finished plate away. She was awesome. And really cute :
