Bidrage med feedbackSuper great service and yummy brautwurst and potato salad plus streudel... sooo great!
I used to visit this restaurant frequently, but last year I tried to go there four times, only to find it closed each time, so we ended up dining elsewhere. While the food is reheated, it still tastes good; I can tell it would be even better if it were fresh. Additionally, the portion sizes are small for the price.
The portions were quite small for the price. The menu had limited options, primarily featuring sausages and hotdogs. While that's acceptable, they should focus on enhancing the quality of those items—grilling them instead of boiling might be a better approach. The German potato salad had a very strong vinegar taste. Additionally, we experienced a lengthy wait for the boiled hotdogs.
While my family explored the few outdoor vendor booths, I peeked inside to check out the menu. What really convinced me to try this place was overhearing the woman behind the counter speaking to another family; her accent clearly indicated she was from Germany or possibly Austria! I thought, “Yes! This place has the appearance, sound, and feel of an authentic German restaurant!” I then faced the challenge of convincing my family to dine here, which was no easy feat since they are not as enthusiastic about German food as I am. They had also gotten wise and started asking, “What does Yelp say?” Despite my excitement, I neglected to check Yelp, telling them to trust me—this would be good! We ordered the schnitzel plate with German potato salad and apple strudel, along with a bratwurst and a kid's hot dog. The first sign of trouble came when our order arrived within minutes of sitting down. It quickly dawned on me that everything, including the schnitzel, had likely been prepared earlier in the day, left to sit, and then quickly reheated when we ordered. The second red flag was the small portion of German potato salad served on a paper plate. I can be a bit stubborn, and as my family began to doubt my prediction that the food would be good, I held firm and insisted they keep an open mind. Oh, how those words would come back to haunt me! The schnitzel was dry and flavorless, tasting as if it had been sitting out before being reheated. The potato salad was warm, but that’s where the resemblance to authentic German potato salad ended. The bratwurst looked and tasted like something bulk-purchased on sale from a wholesale food supplier. The hot dog was equally unimpressive—if a seven-year-old takes two bites and declares they’re full, that’s a clear sign! Given that the food was a one-star experience, my reason for awarding this restaurant two stars instead of one is due to the pleasant demeanor of the woman behind the counter and the kind lady who brought out our food. Their customer service certainly deserved a slight bump in rating.
This place is like a scene straight out of a Hansel and Gretel story! It looks fantastic from the outside, but once you step inside, it’s a different story. I thought I had discovered a hidden gem last weekend, but then the cashier told me they had very limited food options. I noticed that orders were taking an eternity to be fulfilled. We initially wanted to try the bratwurst, but instead decided to go for the strudel. Unfortunately, it was terrible. Save your calories from Apple Hill for somewhere else!
