Bidrage med feedbackOne of the best East Indian restaurant in Calgary. Tried a few different dishes and they were all delicious.
The food was delicious. The service was alright. There was no change table which always ticks me off. Price was reasonable
Terrible service and the food took forever. Save yourself the frustration and avoid this place. They don't even seem to care about improving their service.
Maurya is a relatively small (25 tables) restaurant in the heart of Kensington. It is capable of handling bigger groups (there were three of such the night we were there) but we had a nice table by the front window. Service was quick, efficient, and friendly. Our server was very helpful when we were asking about the number of plates we needed (we were sharing) or the spice levels. We had the gosht vindaloo (spicy with perfectly cooked, tender pieces of lamb), the fish tikka masala that came with a yogurt sauce that was perfect, the vegetable biryani, and the chicken korma. We also had a couple of servings of naan and some Taj beer that went so well with the richness of the food. Our meal was on the table within 25 minutes of ordering - steaming hot. This was the first time we were there - it won't be the last.
My spouse and I are visiting Calgary from the U.S I should preface this review by saying that we have a couple of VERY good Indian restaurants back home, so we are a little spoiled. We are, however, happy to have found a good option for Indian food in Calgary.Maurya is good--not quite as good as we are used to, but still well worth a visit! We had excellent service. The waiter who helped us was friendly and attentive. My spouse and I had someone different reactions to the food. I ordered Dhingri dolma and loved it--found it to be very flavorful, with just the right level of spiciness. She ordered malai kofta and found it to be so-so, a little on the salty side and not quite as tasty as we are used to. The naan was crispy and fresh--very good.
