Hong Kong Garden - Calgary

This little hidden gem has become our favourite spot. Excellent service and consistently excellent food.

Ordered about delivered take-out food Food tastepd fine but paid for it next day! (If you know what I mean) So something was off. Can't recommend

Three of us went to the Garden for their lunch specials. I had read about this place in TA and wanted to try it based on the reviews and on their menu (they are one of only a few that offers Peking Duck in the...deep south of Calgary). They offer two types of meals for lunch, a combination plate of two items plus fried or steamed rice, or plates of one choice. My wife had the fried rice with beef and broccoli and with Moo Goo Gai Pan, or chicken with mushrooms. I had the special chow mein and my son had the Singapore noodles. My wife's dish, like all of them, was huge. None of us could finish our meals and took half home. The beef was tender and tasty, the chicken and mushrooms also. My chow mein was also very large and tasty, lots of chicken, shrimp and BBQ pork. The special part of the special chow mein was the addition of bean sprouts, a great choice. My son's noodles were made of rice (he is gluten intolerant) and had a mild curry sauce with lots of meats and vegetables. Before tip, our lunch order, with tea, came to a very decent price for the taste and portions that we received. While not outstanding, this place does deserve a second visit, maybe to try their Peking Duck. One negative is that, despite it being very slow, the tables were left uncleaned and littered with glasses and stuff for quite a while after customers had left.

Our neighbor recommended this restaurant and we were very impressed on our first visit. The service was top notch, in that he seemed to know most of the customers. It's a small place in Shawnessy Village. We had one order of Hot Sour Soup...on Sizzling Rice one order of Shrimp, Meat Veg on Sizzling Rice and both dishes were fantastic. Huge portions, as we had to take home over of our meal. We most certainly are going back to try out the over items on their menu.

We ordered chicken dishes..the vegetables were lightly cooked which is to our liking..found the onions tasted chemically like they had come from a prepackaged bag like salads have ..left a lasting unpleasant taste..the chicken looked like it was pre digested with meat tenderinzing..a turn off...for us..the flavour of the curry was nice .. Would not eat there again..not our style of food..prefer meat left looking like meat as well as their prices are higher than up in NW Calgary.
