Bidrage med feedbackTried African food for the first time in Africana and loves it! Ugali with Spinat Curry is the best and love her lamb hacks too! Very recommended! Service was nice and the owners are very nice people!
A taste of Indian/African fusion makes this a delicious treat. They are famous for the ribs that are marinated thinly cut bovine ribs in Indian/African spices, warning they are very addictive. Take her once and you're back. The piri piri chicken is very good... like all Indian dishes. Portions are very reasonable and the staff is friendly
Africana has been our favorite restaurant in calgary for years. every time we visit from houston was a meal in africana tradition. we have groups of 30 for special celebration and then our small family of 5 all couples months. I've got several over the years. glossy reviews of africana on ta. I'm so disappointed to say that tonight we had a terrible experience in the africana and will not come back. we have some weeks ago our dinner reservation for our families thanksgiving meal in our last night before returning to the states. we arrived for our dinner reservation 5:30 o'clock immediately. they have thrown together some tables in the bar (not prepared for our reservation) and left us 20 minutes without drinks or communication. we flew the server to ask if we could order, and she told us that the kitchen is secure and we would not be able to order at least 30 minutes. when we asked if we could order drinks while we wait, she said we had to wait. we continued to set up our dumbbells and told the server how disappointed we were to whom she did not react. we saw 3 tables of customers packing and going when we did. to the happiness we stumbled on a jewel of a family restaurant with great food and service. Perhaps in the last few months there was a change in the peculiarity or management of the africana, but whatever the change, this leads to them losing many loyal customers.
This restaurant offers decent African food in an out-way location. The service can be slow, even if it is empty, so plan to enjoy who you are in the meantime!
We had the KUKU PAKA, which is chicken cooked in coconut curry. This was served with a few potatoes in the sauce as well, ordered it a medium heat and could still feel our lips so it was perfect for us. A little heat and...packed with lots of flavor, perfect for dipping the delicious warm naan. We also had the HAKKA NOODLES which contained chicken, veggies, and noodles. This is a stir fry with the chefs special sauce. One of the best we've had, not greasy and great flavor. The only downside was that the noodles could have been cooked a little longer to make them not quite so tough, minor flaw. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone and will go back again.
