From our cool towels with cocktails to the fab desserts, we have enjoyed a grand meal at Marks. Not a lot of other choices from fish or beef but my vegan ravioli rocked. Hubby's Kobe burger hit the spot. Dessert sampler is the way to go, perfect with an espresso. Wines by the glass are on point too. So happy we finally got a chance to visit and we will be back.
I’ve been going to Mark’s Bar & Grill often for the past 3 years, and each and every time I feel it is a special dining experience. On a rare occasion or two, if the food was not what I expected, I let the waiter know and was offered another menu option. The staff is hard-working and accommodating 363 days of the year. In fact many restaurants are partially or fully closed now during the low season. Not Mark’s. It’s one of the only higher-end restaurants in Bucerías that’s open for dinner year-round, everyday, except 12/25 and 1/1. Jan, the owner, chef and creator of the unique dishes, always goes the extra mile to offer good quality ingredients. She chooses specialty menus for holidays and also opens for lunches in high season. From my chats with her I learned she is always studying and experimenting with new and improved cooking methods, presentations, foods and flavors. She continually checks in with the cooks to be sure they follow her cooking instructions, and pays attention to confusion that can sometimes arise at a table. Her goal is to please her customers, and from my experience there, and from reading the comments, I’d say she reaches her goal with flying colors the majority of the time.I last ate there on Sunday, June 26th with a friend, when the streets of Bucerías were the quietest I’ve seen lately. Instead of feeling uncomfortable in a near-empty restaurant, we enjoyed chatting with the waiters and practicing Spanish. We discussed the menu and wine list, while thoroughly relaxing with music and a softly-lit ambiance. We noted the difference with the fast- pace and very busy atmosphere of high season, and enjoyed the calm.We chose the Special of the Day, which was a good-sized portion of perfectly grilled, fresh salmon, topped with strips of crispy leeks and sprigs of dill. It was served with quinoa, smoked beet batons and rolled slices of leeks in a smoky beet sauce. The flatbread and sliced toast was hot and fresh. For dessert the light and creamy key-lime pie with a chocolate-cookie crust and crème chantilly was a tasty splurge to end a lovely evening. I would say the prices are moderate when comparing with other gourmet, historical restaurants in the area. Mark’s has been serving satisfied customers for over 30years and the proof is that they keep coming back. There were several other tables of guests that arrived while we ate. We both noticed that a few were speaking Spanish, or other language. Perhaps those who comment that it’s only a “gringo hangout” should try going at a calmer time of year ,after many of the English-speaking tourists have left.I am glad I can count on Mark’s for offering a delicious and unique dinner menu every night, to those of us looking for something a bit different in Mexico. Here you will find hard-working owners with a staff ready and willing to please, any time of the year. I say to them, “Muchas Gracias!”
