It looks like a regular pub, but don't be fooled by the external aspect: The food is really good, as Japanese as it gets!
Amazing food! Absolutely delicious. The pub offers fantastic drinks that are also very affordable.
We ordered several dishes, including: - Homemade kimchi - Edamame - Ankake fried tofu - Okonomiyaki (vegetable pancake with Ikari sauce) - Gohan rice bowl (miso and spring onion) - Chicken tatsuta age - Fried kushikatsu (sweet potato) My personal favorites were the vegetable pancake, the fried chicken, and the miso rice, but truly everything was delicious. For dessert, we shared matcha green tea ice cream and black sesame ice cream, both of which were delightful. The experience was further enhanced when the chef came out to ask about our thoughts on the saltiness of the black sesame ice cream. It was lovely to chat with the person who crafted the meal!
We visited at the end of July after hearing so many positive reviews about this place in Bristol, and we were not disappointed. The pub itself could use a makeover, but Kansai Kitchen makes up for it with an exceptional menu featuring fantastic Japanese dishes! The chef has spent time in Japan and has brought back incredible flavors and techniques. The okonomiyaki was delicious! We also tried the oysters, and I found myself wishing I could have ordered all four different flavors. The cold sesame noodles were beautiful and refreshing as well. Highly recommended!
