We wanted to try something differentLuckily we found this little restaurant hidden in an arcade in Moorooka.

Never eaten any African food before my boyfriend insisted that we go and try it one day (he's a fan of their food).

This restaurant is down at the end of a small arcade off Beaudesert Road in Moorooka, Brisbane's 'little Africa'. It's not a four or five-star location but an honest little restaurant that specialises in Ethiopian cuisine. Something we knew little or nothing about. Which is why we tried it.Since there were three of us, we chose a banquet for three, $71.20. It provided meat and vegetarian sambusas as appetisers followed by a large round plate containing four meat dishes (three different meats) and a number of vegetarian dishes. They were laid out on a bed of special pancake while we were also given rolls of pancake as well. You eat with your hands, by ripping off some pancake and using it to pick up some of the dish of your choice. Initially we thought there might not be enough for all three of us, but in fact, we couldn't finish it all, delicious as it was. Thankfully there is a sink, soap and paper towels near the front counter so you can wash your hands after eating with them.We had asked for the food to be spicy and it was. A couple of the dishes were quite fiery, but that's what we wanted.Now we will certainly come back to try some of the other dishes on the menu. Thank you Ethiopia for coming up with such tasty cuisine.

I visited as part of a group of four. Having never tasted Ethiopian food before, I was delighted by the different flavors. The food was eaten with hands, and the technique was explained to us by our waiter. The service staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. There is a large range of food on the menu, which comes with an additional sheet explaining in English what each of the meals involve. I will definitely be returning, and hope to try breakfast with their traditional coffee next time I am in.
