Bidrage med feedbackThis is somewhere to go for underground beats and vibes, with none of the pretension of many of the city's seafront clubs. It is fairly small, but generally feels about the right size for the nights that are held here. The bar is separate from the main dancefloor, which is a definite bonus, meaning that no-one is walking through the thronging masses to get to the bar. The main room is upstairs, but downstairs is another smaller room, generally with a more chilled out atmosphere than the main section. In summer, in common with most seafront clubs, it is a cafe/bar in the daytime, serving takeaway drinks and basic food. It's not plush or fancy, and could even be described as grimy, but it's also a hell of a lot of fun.
Back when they used to have Dub Pressure in here it was amazing, but as the music has blown up the club has been left in the dust in my opinion. They still have decent nights on but none that captured the grime and filth that came with GRAMPS HI-FI soundsystem when installed for said night. The club has a good layout and if it's packed out the main room is loads of fun, the downstairs room is smaller (main one isn't that big though) and can be quite annoying but at least another option.
Brighton on a sunny day, a busy sunny day and in school holidays. Yikes. Alas we found a car parking space, did our shopping in le lanes (love with all my heart) and then strolled beachfront. Volks called. Playing, well blaring hip sounds and with lotsa artsy peeps outside we were lured to sit outside. Bit grubby really but kinda liked that about it. Can imagine a night out here would be well fun. Huge area to dance, live dj, drum n bass, well stocked cheapish bar. What more do u want when your lashed? Toilets are vile really, bit too much for a day time bevvie but I was super happy and sun=pissed (as well as beer eyed) so didnt care that much on this particular day. Friendly bar staff, loadsa groups hanging out on a weekend day, including what looked like a stag group...also locals seemed at home here. Good sign. Wanna come back for a boozed up night.
The Volks used to be the place to go if you were too drunk to get in anywhere else. I think that says a lot about a place in a very positive way come in and have a good laugh if you 're out of order, you 're going to get booted out . The reggae and dub nights in here are pretty famous around town. Last time I was in there it was raging drum and bass and the whole atmosphere was electric! Beers are pretty cheap here and you always get a fantastic crowd!
I love my drum and bass and Volks is the perfect place to let your hair down and have a fun night dancing away to some drum and bass. The place itself is a bit grubby, dingy and quite gloomy, but this really doesn't matter when you're on the dance floor with a group of friends raving the night away! It has a downstairs area with a separate DJ set, the downstairs area is fairly small with a couple of sofas and a small space to dance on; however it doesn't seem that small as the wall is covered with mirrors. Drinks prices are slightly under probably slightly average but not overly cheap. The atmosphere is very laid back and fun. Everyone who goes there goes to have a big night. A classic drum and bass club, even if it is a little worse for wear inside, if you're into drum and bass it's definitely worth a visit.
