Bidrage med feedbackAlthough I understand that the hospitality industry has been struggling and is in need of support, my experience at this restaurant was a complete disappointment. Despite the menu on their website stating that a burger would come with chips and other accompaniments, I received just a plain burger on a side plate. The burger was of poor quality, with soft buns from a supermarket and additional bacon and overcooked egg costing extra. The minimal serving of chips and a couple of onion rings came to nearly £15.00. The jacket potato with chilli con carne was mediocre, with no garnish as promised, and was also overpriced, as were the drinks. I am always willing to pay a higher price for quality food, but in this case, the high cost did not match the poor quality of the dishes.
Food not as described on website. Pints overpriced. No salad. No chips with a burger. Burger 8.50 plus extra for cheese bacon egg plus another 2.50 for chips and £2 for a couple of onion rings. Small jacket for £7 again no salad. Burger served on a side plate. Burger worse than one from Iceland. Manager didn’t care about service or to ask if things were ok. 38£ for rubbish one course and 2 drinks. Will not visit again. They want to charge max price for poor quality. Greenstone and spoons just up the road half the price for twice the quality.
It was Sunday and due to the covid restrictions there could be no Sunday lunch as we used to know it, but we did have meals from the specials board. I had an excellent pork and stilton pie with good crunchy chips, my fiancé had the hunters chicken which was also excellent. The service was quick and friendly and the value for money top notch. The hospitality business is currently struggling with the covid crisis and the latest restrictions and I wish this owner well. We will certainly return when we are passing again. .
We used to be regulars but most have left and the place was empty when we reqcently visited. All the old pictures have been removed and the place lacks atmosphere. Added to that we felt cold as the heating was barely on. We ordered a bar snack that took ages to arrived and unassuming. Sadly gone downhill under the current landlord.
It is sad when a place falls from what you remember to be something you hate. We liked the old Canary Linnet with it's big menu, outside benches and good value. This is why we stopped for lunch. My wife had ham, eggs and chips from the very limited menu. I had game pie, chips and peas. After a protracted wait for 2 relatively simple dishes they appeared. The pie was meat, potatoes, peas and a very thin and watery gravy with a flaky pastry lid modelled on a cumulo nimbus cloud, ie a foot thick, the peas and chips were skulking in it's shadow. The pastry tasted burnt on top. The meat was supposedly game, possibly ludo, maybe monopoly. Whatever it was it was cooked for so long it had the same taste s the gravy. The peas were cold, but not overcooked which is a blessing. Unlike the chips which were hot and well over done. My wife ordered her choice based on the somewhat erroneous assumption that ham, egg and chips would involve gammon. Instead she was presented with what appeared to be and probably was, given it's appearance, taste and texture something from the basics line of sliced ham from the Tescos in Dereham. The eggs were about the size of something from Haribo, fried and were like my peas, cold, but for variety they were overcooked. This was not cheap, £10 for the pie, £9 for the ham, it was not good, it was not value for money. We won't be going back.
