Top golf course in Great Britain without treating with poncy snobs. thanks for the great visit. the golf course was impressive and the condition was impeccable.
Play here for a week every July in a competition. Always a brilliant week and this year the weather was incredible! Played both courses and both were in good condition considering the blistering heat wave. The staff and food were top notch, I’d advise on trying the Hungry Golfer Breakfast and a Saunton Cooler, a lot of calories but you need it when playing 36 holes a day. I prefer the East course but don’t let that make you think the West isn’t as good. Just a preference. The practice facilities are also great. Two putting greens 1 flattish, 1 undulating), two ranges and a 100 yd long approach to the chipping green to get a feel for running the ball into the green. The chipping green also has 3 steep faced pot bunkers to practice out of, so there really are no excuses when you get on course that you hadn’t adequately warmed up. Well worth playing both if you’re in the area and a probable contender to host the Open if the local infrastructure was modernised.
We played the East Course at Saunton, and everything about it was first-class—quite possibly the best links-style course I have ever played. The condition of the course was exceptional, and the hospitality from the staff was outstanding; they made us feel very welcome. A special mention goes to Kevin, the starter/marshal, who was truly wonderful. The clubhouse is also quite nice, with good food options. Overall, it was a fantastic golf experience, and we will definitely be returning.
This restaurant features two excellent golf courses that challenge every golfer. The newer western course offers a links-style experience with undulating fairways, while the eastern course boasts a flatter, more manicured landscape. Both courses are worth a visit, along with the Royal North Devon Golf Club located near the bay.
As always, I enjoyed my first visit in 13 years and was pleased to find the staff as friendly and helpful as ever. However, I'm not entirely sure about the modernized clubhouse interior; I personally preferred the old-fashioned style from years ago. That said, the clubhouse itself is still a solid 5 stars, and the food was fantastic. We played the West (March) course, which was in immaculate condition, although the greens were a bit tricky. Just one complaint—I wish they could figure out how to control the weather!
