Sammy's - Brantford

I have a large family and wanted to take everyone out to dinner. We decided to try a local and affordable restaurant for a change instead of just ordering pizza. Unfortunately, we should have just stuck with the pizza or gone to the freezer at Costco. We all ordered different meals and were all disappointed.

During the quarantine, I ordered delivery from this restaurant. The food was just as good as always, with a variety of great specials and generous portions. We enjoy dining in when they are open, as the family-friendly atmosphere is perfect for our toddler.

I had never heard of Tiny Bar before, but a friend convinced me to try it out. Despite the limited beer selection, the cheddar bacon burger with poutine that I ordered was surprisingly delicious. The meat on the poutine was cooked perfectly, the cheese was a bit sparse (not curds), and the flame-grilled burger was excellent. It was a great value for the quality of the meal. I would definitely return and recommend it to others.

Yesterday for lunch. Both had the fish and the chips and we agreed that the fish was overcooked and fat. The fries were also very fat.

I read a lot of good food reviews and thought I’d try it. This place looks small from the outside. There is no parking. Either you park on the street or across the road. The place is actually big with a dining room in front and at the back. And it is dark, which is what you’d expect in a bar. But the main thing I noticed were the dinginess of the floors and walls. Not trash lying around but years of gunk and grime that built up on the vinyl floors and walls, something that makes me want to go on my knees with a hard steel bristle brush and just brush away the hardened dirt. I ordered a burger with fries. It was a good size and I couldn’t finish eating the fries. A bit salty but it was all right. The wait staff are friendly and enthusiastic. This seems to be a very popular place. I just wish they’d shut down for a week and clean up the place thoroughly, paint the walls and replace the floors. If it’s dirty in the main dining areas, I wonder what it is like in the kitchen.
