Bidrage med feedbackMartin and Dee are doing a top job in The Shears. They've got together a great bunch of regulars and put on regular live music and Kareoke/DJ nights. The history behind this pub is heavily linked to the Luddites.
Nice beer garden at the back with nice views over spen
The bartenders were so drunk that they charged us double for our drinks and wouldn't fix the mistake. Meanwhile, a group resembling the cast of "The Hills Have Eyes" became aggressive and created a menacing environment. Service: 1/5 Atmosphere: 1/5.
This is a traditional pub that could use a bit of modernization, but considering the costs involved and the limitations imposed by its historical significance and local ties, it certainly has its charm. I visited during a quiet midweek tea time, so there weren't many patrons present. Nonetheless, it felt like a fantastic local spot, and I can imagine that a fuller crowd would create a lively atmosphere. During my visit, I enjoyed a couple of refreshing and affordable pints of Yorkshire Blonde, which really hit the spot. The beer garden at the back offers lovely views over the valley, and it's clear that dogs are welcome as well. I'll definitely stop by again the next time I'm in the area.
Great pub! I almost knocked over some guys sitting by the pool table—my apologies for that, lol!
