We arrived in Lavandou late in the evening and most places were closed. We decided to try this restaurant as a friend had previously recommended it. We walked into a garden area with other covered dining spaces and although there were other diners there didn't seem to be any staff about so we were a little apprehensive. However a waitress come and assured us that we could eat and directed us to a table and brought menus. There was a good choice including traditional and some new flavours including Indian Tandouri. We chose a curry topping to share washed down with a half pitcher of house wine. The total bill including tip was just over 25 euros. A point to remember is that this restaurant doesn't accept card payment. The evening was a little chilly but the waitress quickly offered me a wrap to keep me warm. We felt that the restaurant was welcoming and provided good fairly priced food- although we didn't have either a starter of desserts. We are hoping to return in the near future to try more from the menu.
This restaurant is a little off the beaten track, but close to the house where we stayed. We turned up at 8 30 with no reservation, and the waitress found us a table immediately. The location is lovely it 's like you are in a tropical garden, well lit and very appealing. It quickly became clear that this is a family business husband cooking the pizza, wife waiting tables, and it looked like a couple of young helpers in the kitchen. The problem with it was that there was only one waitress, for drinks and food for perhaps 50 people. So everything was quite slow, although the lady was rushing around doing everything. We had a Calzone and a pizza. My partners pizza was very good (she said), my Calzone was ok, missing seasoning and herbs, nothing special. Perhaps I am being a bit hard with my average rating, as everyone tried hard, nothing was wrong, it was just that nothing was memorable or stand out, and a little slow.
Anyone who orders a pizza here must know that the method of preparation and the toppings correspond to the traditional way of preparing a pizza in a wood-fired oven. Pizza used to be poor poor people's food. Thin dough with whatever toppings were available. If you expect pizza like it comes from a refrigerated counter, you should go somewhere else. I/we have been getting the pizza here for almost 40 years and have always been extremely satisfied because it is authentic and the price is absolutely understandable in relation to the size. We don't need the uniformity elsewhere. Great pizza from us 10 stars. Thank you
