On a quiet Monday afternoon my brother (who is fluent in French) and I went to the Bazaar Cafe for an afternoon drink. As we walked toward one of many empty tables the female employee rolled her eyes at us and spoke in French to a gentlemen standing near the bar. Assuming we couldn't speak French she rudely commented that "English people are so annoying. I'll take my time". We politely asked if we could sit at a table and she sarcastically smiled and spoke again to her elderly French friend. Ignoring us for a few more minutes (despite there only being two other people there) we got up and politely excused ourselves in French. The bar tender seemed surprised at our ability to speak in French and then laughed. We sarcastically thanked her for her hospitality and left. Meanwhile she and her elderly gentleman friend continued to comment that westerners were ruder see walked away. In a town that is becoming more popular with tourists it's obvious that this cafe will need to change its attitude or hire some staff with more worldly knowledge. Because clearly, if an employee treated another foreigner like that in our western countries they wouldn't have a job. Sad example of French bitterness that we hadn't experienced in years. Would never go back.
Bazaar cafe is located right at Place des Grands Hommes, cool place to have a nice glass of wine as couples or friends hanging out.
Quite small, but nice and cozy. we had the menu jour and eating was pretty good. excellent apple cake! friendly and fast service, decent size shares.
I did not evaluate the service at this location, as the waiter was a little arrogant when we asked if they had an English menu. we still sat down and eat here. my friend ordered the bazaar burger and I got the familiar. to our surprise, eating was really delicious. the pattie was juicy, cooked on medium-sized rareness and the confit dee fell from the bone. a tade on the salty side, but the red wine supplemented the duck well, so I didn't mind. as both net parts were pretty good, we decided to order dessert and the cream brulee. it was one of the best cream brim we both ate so that we can get to the boil.
