Here the Flemish lion is well represented and they are proud of it. in the Belgian part of flandres, they must hide their Flemish lions or they are considered as racist:
The chef is very funny and always to check whether everything is in order with his customers. the service was perfect. eating is simple but tasty, special note for the excellent dessert merveilleux
Came randomly over this facility while cutting through the monts of the flandres. not really mountaineer, as the chilterns beat them for the height, but great prospects in all directions from the highest floor in flanders. the estaminet is located on the old village windmill, and there is a large, free public parking space that is clearly used by hikers who explore the palette of footpaths. apparently large in the inner and with a lot of outside sitting on tables. limited opening times, even in the summer months, so check the website before they go, but I think weekends could be busy as it is worth traveling here, and it is just a few km from the a25. we just thought for a drink on the afternoon, so could not try the food (and so can only give it a 4,) though would have been very happy to do so a typical est type here is looking forward to the next trip!
Came across this establishment by accident whilst cutting through the Monts des Flandres. Not really mountains, as the Chilterns beat them for height, but great views in all directions from the highest ground in Flanders. The estaminet is adjacent to the old village windmill, and there is a large, free, public car park clearly used by walkers exploring the range of footpaths. Deceptively large inside, and with plenty of outside seating at tables. Limited opening hours, even in the summer months, so check the website before you go, but I imagine weekends could be busy as it is worth travelling to get here, and it's only a few km from the A25.We only stopped for a drink in mid-afternoon, so could not sample the food (and so can only give it a 4) although would have been very happy to do so - a typical estaminet-type menu, if there still is such a thing, based on hearty food to go with the beers, of which there is an excellent selection. Here's looking forward to the next trip!
