Bidrage med feedbackThe pub food was really good. The pies were delicious and they were very accommodating to children. The service was okay and the noise level was average. However, the "homemade" lemonade was disappointing and only worth 2 stars. I watched the person make it and it was clearly just overly tangy lemon syrup mixed with water. Not authentic at all. I wouldn't recommend it.
After a fun day at Cadbury World, we decided to try out Hopwood House for some savory food. The warm and cozy pub had a relaxed atmosphere, and we settled in at a big table for 6. Despite a delayed drink order and incomplete food dishes, the manager handled our complaint well and we left without paying. Here's hoping for a better dinner tonight.
I have visited this restaurant several times and have always had a positive experience. The last time I was there, the waitress seemed a bit grumpy, but this was unusual as I usually receive friendly service. The service is always quick and the food is delicious. The portion sizes are generous, especially the chicken starter which is enough for half a chicken. My friend ordered the chicken main course and ended up eating an entire chicken! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a nice dinner out.
The Hopwood House is a gorgeous pub located on the canalside on the Redditch Road. I used to drink here years ago but find I appreciate the place much more now I'm a bit older because it's ideal for both a quiet meal and a place to bring the kids. The staff are so friendly and helpful, they are quick to serve you and genuinely seem to want you to enjoy your visit. When taking the food order they are usually knowledgeable about the menu, and if they don't have the answer to your question then they will pop and ask the chef who invariably does know. They serve excellent food, slightly higher in price than other pubs in the area, but well worth the extra expense in my opinion. Do try the Devlish Apple Toffee Crumble which is so good you'll want to lick the bowl afterwards! There's a brilliant menu and you'll definitely find something you fancy, my favourite is the steak and chips which is served with a delicious pepper sauce. We visited just today and I shared a Combo Starter and a bowl of chips with the kids' while their dad was fishing in the canal outside. The Combo was delicious and excellent value for £7.45 two large chicken portions, garlic bread, onion rings, battered mushrooms, potato skins and salad made this a filling meal and perfect for sharing. The food was perhaps a little greasy, but who cares when you're treating yourself! The accompanying chips were well cooked and delicious, especially dipped in the garlic mayo which had come with the Combo. The kids' love The Hopwood House because there is a massive play area out the back where they can burn off their energy and work up an appetite ready for their meals. The play area is also bordered by a shallow woodland which the children never tire of playing Hide Seek in. I honestly think the Summer is the best time to visit the Hopwood because the canal is so pretty that it is nice to sit by the water with a nice cold drink and soak up the sun and the peace and quiet! The pub has a nice mix of regulars and people just passing through so the atmosphere is always good. The fact that the pub caters so well for children makes sure that everyone behaves themselves and it's rare to see anyone who is actually drunk in there. My fella loves the choice of real ales in the Hopwood, although I am only pleased to see that they serve J20 for the kids and Carling Extra Cold (with lime! for me. The wine list is good, not as extensive as I'd like when we are visiting for a special meal but there is always something to go with the food and at a reasonable price.
We have been using the Hopwood for many years now, but had an unfortunate experience today. Ordered two meals in an almost deserted pub at 4.25pm By 4.50 no meals arrived. 'Our ' waitress saw me looking and came over to see what the problem was. I asked when would our meals be arriving and she said she would go and check. Now to my mind if I was going to check how long a meal was going to be I would go to the kitchen...correct? Oh no, she goes and speaks to another waitress then comes back and says there has been a problem with the hotplate and the meals wouldnt be much longer!!! I ask for complimentary desserts as a gesture of goodwill, only to be told no, so I ask to speak to her supervisor who agrees and offers complimentary desserts. A further fifteen minutes later, still no meals. I approached the supervisor and asked how much longer, to which I am told 'I will go and check '. I replied 'I shall also be refusing to pay for our drinks '. Five minutes later, the meals arrive which were both excellent as were the desserts. We both get up to leave to which we see panic from the waitresses. We walk over to pay for the meals and the waitress says 'I 'll just do your bill '. I reply 'I 'm not paying for the drinks '. So the waitress leaves to get the manager. I explain the situation to the manager who says 'That 's fine, but don 't bother coming back '. I tell him that we have been eating here on a regular basis and never had a problem to which he repeats 'That 's fine but don 't bother coming back without once looking me in the eye. You may be wondering how much our drinks bill was as the manager was totally unaware and didn 't bother to find out that all we had to drink were two cokes. So at his discretion, he has lost our good custom for the price of two soft drinks.
