Bidrage med feedbackMy party of four adults visited this restaurant yesterday for lunch and all of us ordered fish and chips. Unfortunately, the size of the fish servings left much to be desired and the quality of the food was very disappointing. The grilled fish was extremely small, almost non-existent, on its bed of chips. The battered fish we ordered was also underwhelming and overcooked. Additionally, the service was average at best, as we only received three out of the four drinks we ordered. Overall, the portion sizes and service seemed to have declined under the new ownership. I would recommend saving your money and dining elsewhere.
I'll start with that plus. at the place great, coffee very good, friendly staff, very good oyster naturally, great chips. there it ends for our group. waited an hour while we saw how the commands were delivered. the one fish and the chips had two pieces of fish, a piece that was the teig still inside. the muscheln tellersauce must swim tinted tomato in hot water? my fish of the day barramundi was pretty nice, but don't expect a whole fish thought would be filets. Your john dory was tiny, mostly bone. the salat was just rocket leaves, no suits. we ordered a by the side that we knew would be rocket, but also a few shadings of parmasan and a drill of balsam, but the first person that could not help but take it all. the fifth meal saw raw forget what it was, but when we asked, she said very disappointing. will not be back until the menu changes.
Very small portions, bad quality, average service and very expensive for what they get. this is the worst experience I had in 10 years. they skip this place.
This restaurant was absolutely terrible. We paid nearly $80 for two cold servings of fish and chips, 3 drinks, and a milkshake. It was a complete disappointment. We used to enjoy the fish and chips here before the renovation, but now it's no longer the same.
I spent 5 weeks in Australia in May 2022, taking a well-deserved break from my stressful career in London. I can honestly say the only bad experience in my holiday was here at “what the fish”. I was appalled by the rude, small-minded meanness of...the management. Having driven from Sydney to visit Berowra Waters, my husband needed the toilet. He suffers badly with a gastro-related illness, a disability. So, we politely asked a waitress if he would could use the bathroom. She said “of course” and pointed the way. On the way to the bathroom, a foul-tempered woman confronted us, demanding to know if we were going to order something from the menu. To be honest, the thought had no yet occurred to us, but we probably would have done so afterwards, before our long drive back to Sydney. A number of customers were by now watching the spectacle she made in her pursuit to protect the toilet from non-paying guests. The poor kind waitress looked mortified as the nasty, mean-minded money-grabbing manager barred us from using the bathroom, and launched an inquisition as to which member of staff dared to be kind, presumable so she could reprimand them later. A male staff member in the kitchen was laughing, which I felt was just upsetting and made a bad situation even worse. A nearby female customer observed the confrontation and was, like us, appalled. So she got up and came after us, catching us outside the shop, to inform us that there was a public toilet nearby, which we had no idea about until someone told us. The customer also told us that she lived nearby and that it was well-known what awful service is inflicted upon customers at “what the fish” even the name is a play on a well-known offensive phrase . It is a tragic shame that this place is the only catering business here at Berowra Waters. I have read other reviews and mine is not an isolated experience. Some other people have reviewed to complain about selling frozen seafood next to the water. I cannot speak as to the quality of the food but for me the service inflicted upon us was enough to know the nature of this establishment. The current owners well-deserve for their business to be rejected by visitors for its mean-minded, rude approach to serving the local community, including visitors like us, with lots of spending money. A simple smile and we might have stopped to make a purchase. Now, I would rather starve than eat here. It smelled of old cooking fat anyway, which was not appetising at all. I have no reservation is saying that “what the fish” has the worst service I have ever seen anywhere in Australia, this being my seventh visit. I will return home to the UK with an enduring memory of Berowra Waters. A useful reminder that mean-minded pettiness is a creeping affliction which can affect people in need even in the most rural places of interest. Do everyone a favour and avoid customising this dreadful little business.
