I came across this restaurant about months ago when my flatmate and I were looking for something decent to eat in our neighborhood. We expected some...
Very good Indian food. My family ordered chicken biryani, chicken vindaloo, butter chicken, and garlic naan. The vindaloo was a little greasy. All food tased great, though!
I have to embarrassingly admit while eating there, I closed my eyes several times when the lamb melted on my tongue! I am absolutely obsessed with Indian food and my mission is to try all Indian restaurants in Berlin. This restaurant has been recommended by native Indians and it was referred to as the most authentic Indian food . And I have to say that I now have two favorite Indian restaurants in Berlin. The restaurant is located in Wedding and even on a Thursday evening it was packed. There are plenty of tables inside and in the summer one can also sit outside. However, I can see that on weekends this place might be really busy. The menu has a lot of food items, including deserts, side dishes and a good selection of beers and wines. To my astonishment they have white and red wine from India. I will have to try it once. I ordered one of my favorites: Lamb Vindaloo. Specifically, the Tamil Mutton Vindaloo. Tamil indicates the area it is from (South India). This restaurant serves food from South India and Sri Lanka. The prices are reasonable and the portions are big. I had a hard time finishing my portion and before I ordered, I even considered ordering a soup before my main dish. But because the portion was big, I was glad that I did not order it. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Traditional Indians or Sri Lankans work there in service and in the kitchen. The nice thing about the kitchen is that it is right in the middle of the room and is open, so customers are able to see the cook preparing the meals. What caught my attention and immediately made me feel like the food is going to be great, was the large selection of spices the cook has available on a top shelf. Always a good sign! The food came fairly fast and the waiter´s attention was also great, despite being really busy. There was a large group/meeting that he had to cater to and still did not make me wait. Another good sign was that there were many Indians dining. The reason I gave it only 4 stars is that the restaurant is a bit rundown. The menu was gross, falling apart, and greasy. The table was clean but when looking around, everything really needs some attention (spiderwebs on lamps) and a proper cleaning. Especially because it is an open kitchen and the decor will be affected by it. But for a wonderful and yet very reasonable price range, this place is on my top list to visit again and recommend it.
