Catahoula Coffee - Berkeley

The macchiato with almond milk and the muffins were delicious. Jay was an awesome barista. Thanks for another great coffee day in the bay!

Such kind, friendly staff, great drinks (I'm 100% hooked on the mexi-mocha), and a chic atmosphere. It's a little cozy inside, which is nice as long as the place isn't busy (I've yet to see it busy). And they put the cutest patterns on the drinks! It made my day this morning.

This is a great local coffee place that is a convenient and much quieter alternative to the big chain coffee spots at the nearby 4th Street mall. If you feel a bit hesitant to walk under the University Ave overpass, just go through the turnabout by the train station, there's often a bus parked there or passengers coming and going. Then walk just one more block to Catahoula and compensate for the extra calories burned with a sweet treat and a beverage. The coffee is excellent, they have beans for purchase as well and plenty of interesting beverages to try. The hot food selection is limited but there is usually a small breakfast burrito or something similar available. Friendly service, and plenty of outdoor space, if the picnic tables are full, there are lots of quiet benches nearby, or you can easily walk over to Aquatic Park. Prices are pretty much comparable to other nearby spots.

Drinks are decent and they have a great selection of vegan and Paleo pastries, as well as tasty English muffins. They also have premade breakfast burritos but I haven't tried those. Inside is cozy and clean even though it's small, outside patio is also pleasant especially on sunny days. The bathroom is normally clean but it doesn't have a changing table unfortunately. Service however, is a hit or miss. Some staff is nice but others not so much...
