Locanda Case Bortot - BELLUNO

We were visiting from the U.S. and staying in the Belluno area. We found this restaurant as a top rated option for Italian Barbecue style fare. The location is beautifully set in the Balzano Valley area with several large mountains as a stunning back drop. We were the only table when we initially arrived, but other parties arrived later. The Chef was very warm and seated us. He took care to make sure that we understood each element of the menu (because it was in Italian) and he went over each dish in each course. Every course of food that we received looked like a work of art that was hearty and masterfully cooked. The flavors were phenomenal and each offering had a comfortable familiarity that was raised to another level by the Chef’s abilities. We are so thankful for our experience there and we will certainly be returning on our next trip to The Dolomites.

The atmosphere was gorgeous however getting a taxi to and from was quite challenging. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The owner/chef wasn’t the most personable however had his own sense of humor.

It was a one man show. He seated us in a cozy room reminiscent of a medieval inn with windows overlooking the mountain side, patiently read every menu item to us and answered our questions, took our orders, then excused himself to prepare the most delicious meal! Everything was impeccable! Highly recommend! Just be careful on the road to get there, lots of twists and turns.
