Bidrage med feedbackThe place looked good, the menu interesting. Result: all ok if you are in very much less than a hurry and not very hungry. The service is slovenly and not smiling at all I did worry about her untidy hair falling in the soup.... The food is well cooked but lacks sparks and a smidgen of green vegetable or even decorative lettuce might have cheered it up.the place feels sad and it is not helped by what appears to be an obituary notice on one of the walls, sad for the owner but intrusive for the client.
Each year I make a point of returning to this restaurant . It has a great chief and very reasonable wines. The quality and price are very appropriate. So if you want some really good food , beautifully cooked and presented . This is the place.
What can anyone say about this high quality restaurant ? I have traveled extensively in Europe and the US and this is one of those rare places that provide traditional French regional cooking to a very high standard with a small but excellent selection of local and regional French wines. Of course you could go to many places nearby , in the more up market Bastille towns but for my money this is the best value place. I have come on many occasions both for lunch and dinner and the whatever the occasion it does not disappoint. The service is quick and efficient by the hostess , Sophie . The chef Gilles has a real passion for quality. The combined husband and wife team are efficient. But if you want just a tourist lunch or quick menu go elsewhere. They offer traditional value not in quantity but in quality and attention to detail. The coffee is excellent as well. Go on treat yourself . It will not disappoint.
We were passing through Beaumont last Sunday and stopped here on the off chance at 1.15pm to ask if it were still possible to get a simple one-dish lunch without the full 3/4 course meal, as we still had a good drive to get where we were going that afternoon. We were asked in no uncertain terms if we thought the chef's restaurant looked like a "snack bar" - (God forbid!), and what on earth were we thinking by turning up at 1.15 expecting to be served when they were busy serving dessert to the other customers? I therefore cannot say what the food is like as we were virtually thrown out of the place for being so presumptuous, but if the welcome is anything to go on, I definitely will not be going back to try.We ended up finding a very pleasant and welcoming place in the next village where we arrived EVEN LATER, but still got a great meal along with a smile.
It started to rain so we decided to find somewhere to eat. The restaurant was empty but we were early and were quickly served. There was little choice so we opted for the Menu du Terroir, amuse bouche, a small delicious bowl of garlic soup, entree of Foie gras, served simply with walnuts and crusted fresh bread, superb confit de canard with potatoes, and topped off with a nutty ice cream, prunes and raspberry. We opted for a glass of Monbazillac. With the foie gras, and a glass of bergerac red with the duck, cost around 65 euros. The duck confit was the best we have ever tasted, with a delicious crispy skin. The restaurant filled up as we ate, but service with a limited menu was quietly efficient.
