Bidrage med feedbackWe didn't stay at the hotel but I had in the past so knew the restaurant. It was a special evening a meal to celebrate our Ruby Wedding. I booked the table the day before and then later that night looked at Trip Advisor. I then seriously considered cancelling the booking. However I worked on the fact that perhaps people are more likely to complain than praise so we went as planned. Thank goodness we did. We had a lovely evening both in the bar and restaurant. The food was lovely the ambience was quiet but welcoming. The staff were brilliant special mention to Georgio, the waiter, to Bogdan and the bar manager. All were extremely friendly. The food was superb well priced and great quality. It was a super night and the reviews were not what we experienced. Husband loved the Bath Sling cocktail too!
Stayed for 3 nights so ate dinner in the main restaurant and afternoon tea the subsequent day and then in the lounge area on other days. The food is expensive, we had a main of chicken with vegetables which was £24, however the meal was faultless. The chicken was so moist and each flavour complimented each other. You could see the time and care that had been taken to cook and plate the meal. We also had the gnocchi as a starter which I would really really recommend £12). The deserts again were good, we had a chocolate pot which was a good portion with homemade honeycomb and fig tart. I was impressed that when we asked our waitress which dessert wine would complement the fig she could discuss the different wines and what they offered. Certainly recommend for dinner despite it being a little pricey due to the high quality and great flavour. The only thing to add would be the wait staff were spread quite thin so it wasn’t easy trying to get someone’s attention for drinks and the room was so big which was lovely but lacking a little in atmosphere. However we were eating on a Monday night. On a separate day we had afternoon tea, again lovely and really good value.
We didn’t even get to our table due to disgraceful customer experience. I booked our Ruby Wedding Anniversary about a month ahead but minutes before we were due to leave the house we got a phone call to say are we still coming and we can’t do Sunday Lunch as chef has just said he doesn’t have the supplies. They said they we could have the à la carte menu instead so we decided, reluctantly, to go with it. When we arrived in good time we were told our table wasn’t ready and would we take a seat. I noticed men in suits were hastily arranging tables for a large party but sat down and waited, and waited! After about 20 plus minutes I wandered into the restaurant area to see if someone would come up and seat us but no one did. The men in suits proceeded to walk past us as we sat waiting and we’re fussing with air spray. Then a large party were ushered in and seated. I went to the reception desk this time and expressed my dissatisfaction. Still no action. I then presented myself again in the restaurant and a waitress asked if she could help?! Yes please but my frustration boiled over and one of the men in suits appeared. He apologised and ask me to take a table but by then I just didn’t feel like eating there and we walked out, disgruntled at our 2nd class treatment. Thankfully the Bird Hotel just down the road rescued our special day. While there the restaurant manager rang to offer a complimentary meal and I said thanks but please pop it an email as I was still calming down. It’s a week now and, of course, no email or any other message has been forthcoming, hence this dqmning review. We know we don’t want to return ever and I strongly advise anyone to NEVER SET FOOT IN THIS PLACE!
