Montego Grille - Baltimore

A diamond in the rough. This is a very quaint place with a cozy atmosphere. The staff if really friendly. The food is excellent! Parking isn't the greatest, but worth the adventure. Walk inside and be transported to another world.

It’s always a hard choice between this and the nearby McDonald’s but I do love to eat here!

This review is more about their dress code. There was an event their tonight a friend told me about and advertised as a happy hour that started at 6. I arrived and the front of the place is blacked with graffiti and sort of dirty windows. The bouncer at the front door informed me that the event was formal and I couldn't not enter. He said no Tshirts and no jeans. I had on a shirt with out buttons so not a tshirt but a casual/dress shirt. I did have on Jean shorts and loafers. My friend arrived she had on jeans heels and a nice shirt she was told she couldn't enter. While we waited for our other friend to arrive we did see some women come in sign dresses and heels and a few men in suits. So we're like ok this wasn't advertised correctly so whatever we will chalk it up to a miscommunication. We ultimately went to another Restaurant Ampersea which was amazing on the water and we ended up with about a $300 tab. (See their review shortly) So while we are having our drinks and meal ok the water one of my friends says let me look at Montegos live Instagram to see what's going on and low and behold we see a bunch of people in the event looking super casual. Saw several men with Tshirts and ball cap dad hats. Women with shirts and jeans. So I'm not sure maybe those people knew someone to get in or not . But the point is if you want to be the type of place to enforce some subjective dress code then be consistent. Based on the reviews of this place it's ridiculous that they would even attempt at being pretentious. Also for reference we arrived at Montevideo around 7 and looked at their IG around 8-830ish so this was the same event. So with that I won't ever go there for any reason. Was more than happy I ended up somewhere else with great , high end food and atmosphere.
