Bidrage med feedbackThis Jamaican restaurant is nothing less spectacular! The food was to die, the aromas and spices together in perfect harmony, the chicken and goats were perfectly cooked, and the total price CAN NOT BEAT ANYWHERE. The food was easy 12 10. And apart from eating, the owners are super nice and committed. This restaurant offers a homemade feel of TRUE. It felt honest as if I went into her living room and got a dish of food right from the stove. This place is a must in Bakersfield. And to finish everything, Stephanie makes her own healthy pressed juices that are much better than all the chain brands you'll find at Whole Foods or the kind.
Summary Had this place booked a while, so glad to try it for lunch. Tried the standard backpack chicken and it was quite good (not excessively salty or oily, which was beautiful, not eating coma) food- 5 stars tried the standard backpack chicken, but want to try the ox tail and goats in the future. The Ruck chicken plate was pretty good. Many spices to add the taste without excessively salty or oily as most chicken dishes. The rice, vegetables and curtains were also quite good bottom line An excellent addition to my Bakersfield restaurant rotation.
Would you like a homemade Jamaican food, stop from this mother and pop place. I tried her jerk chicken and the lady gave me a sample of curry chicken and it just melted in your mouth and the potatoes were boiled for perfection. Every meal comes with rice and beans, cabbage, curtains and a soda. I'm back at the weekend to try her oxtail.
I was in town to see the almond blossoms and came across this place on Yelp. I was surprised and excited to find a genuine Caribbean restaurant out here (granted I know very little about Bakersfield). First the food. We ordered the jerk chicken plate. You get jerk chicken, rice and peas, cabbage, and fried plantains for $10. The chicken was moist and you can really taste the seasoning. The best part for me was the tangy sauce he poured on top of the chicken. I wish I had asked for extra. It was sooo good! They have a few tables outside with umbrellas you can sit and dine at but mostly everyone did drive through while we were there. Barrington is the Chef and namesake of this hole in the wall gem. He was incredibly friendly. I couldn?t decide on the brown stew chicken or the jerk chicken so he gave me a sample. We also had been on the road and out and about for nearly five hours and needed to use the restroom really badly. He was kind enough to let us use his private restroom which really saved the day for us. He said he?s been cooking traditional food like this since he was a young boy. His passion really showed with every interaction he encountered. Too bad it?s a three hour drive from me. If I?m ever back in town I?ll definitely come again to try curry or the oxtail. Ugh, my mouth is watering watering now!
Fabulous people, generous amount of food, 2 outdoor seating to enjoy the sunset at a fenced area of a parking lot. Asked for a sampler as a first time customer, and got to try so much deliciousness! A family member who dislike meat ate up half of another box of browned chicken rice that I ordered ?? jerk chicken was flavourful and juicy brown chicken was delish, but not as moist. Still yummy though! curry chicken was great. BUT what would I come back for? Def the oxtails and curry goat. I?m a huge fan of goat and this was done right. And I?m NOT a fan of oxtails, but this was ALSO SO DONE RIGHT. ?? And they gave us complimentary sodas. What?! Wonderful pit stop of our road trip. I like that they had masks and gloves on for the Covid cautious too. Will def be back for their legit food!
