If you’re in the area, look this little gem up and if you’re not in the area, make the journey anyway as it’s well worth the journey. And don’t be put off by having to book at least 24 hours in advance because the food at this modest little restaurant is exceptional. Once in, you realise quite quickly why advance bookings are necessary because the food is lovingly prepared (beautifully cooked, elegantly presented, wonderful flavour combinations) by one woman using lots of the produce grown in her own garden and bought in especially for you — all completely fresh and no waste...this chef has been doing sustainable eco friendly seasonal cooking long before it became de rigeur! On my last visit, it wasn’t just main event (part shelled prawns perfectly cooked and flavoured, sauteed/parmentier potatoes with fresh thyme) but the little details e.g. a raspberry glazed cherry tomato with parsley stalk reminscent of a tiny toffee apple but sweet and savoury or the home made chocolate dessert with raspberry sorbet (made with raspberries from her garden) and fresh raspberries with just a touch sugar and rose water, and grated burnt orange peel. Deciphering wonderful taste combinations with each mouthful is a joy. All this in completely relaxed, slightly bohemian surroundings, with a delightful host who clearly loves to create in the kitchen. And the seemingly sleepy village of Badefols is well worth a stopover/stay with it’s imposing chateau, wonderful views and intiguing characters it certainly captured my heart and I will be back!
Wonderful place. We had the basic menu which was fabulous, can't fault anything and such great value. Took the 1 year old too and the staff couldn't have been nicer, they loved interacting with him. Nice pitcher of house wine thrown in. We loved it so much we went back the next night and had the next higher price menu. Just great. On both nights the soups were incredible, especially the chestnut soup. Deserts great too. Just go there you have to phone the lovely patron and she opens up specially for you.
