Bidrage med feedbackThe Mayflower sits in Ahrweiler, and has been there for as many years as I can remember. It always seems to be as good as empty. We'd thought we'd try it anyway, when a group of friends was recently visiting & expressed the wish to have chinese food. We booked for a group of friends for an evening meal at the Mayflower. Initial service was super slow, but they got there (at least taking the drink order) in the end - and then we were told that they only had a couple of bottles of Tsingtao beer left, so we had to change the drinks order (not a good start). The drinks took forever to arrive, and this when the place was empty - apart from us (9) and 2 others. We eventually place our food order (off the menu card, NOT buffet) & some time later the food started to arrive. Most of the main courses looked the same, only the meat being different, which seemed a bit odd. Then the 'sauce' associated with each main dish was served separately - this was a first for most of us - and mine looked & tasted disgusting (it was meant to be a hot/spicy peanut sauce, but was not hot/spicy nor tasted at all of peanuts). Also, it appears that "chinese vegetables" means 'beansprouts' as that was all there was to be seen (again, a first for most of us, who are all well traveled & eat out quite often). To cap it all, one or more of the main meals was far from hot. On raising the matter of the "chinese vegetables" and the temperature of the meals, the staff member (the owner/manager we believe) didn't want to know - he started to argue with us & then started laughing. He did provide a side dish of piping hot vegetables to one of the group, which was appreciated, but as for the rest of the points he was not interested at all. The food itself tasted OK (average) with the exception of the sauce. So, in conclusion, I would NOT recommend the Mayflower at all. Save your well earned cash & go elsewhere (there are much better options elsewhere in Ahrweiler)!
Just come from there and so far still quite loaded .... We chose the buffet. It was only during our complaint that we were told that the buffet was switched off from 20:30, because no guests would come. That's why the whole food from the buffet was almost cold. Frozen squid is great if it just has body temperature. Duck 'cold' is not the same as 'cold duck'. The staff was loud and crowded. No, not at midnight. It was 21:00. I felt like a bad canteen. Mike ps. Royal Dragon in Bonn-Lengsdorf is already recommended.
We were eating there with friends on Saturday and were not really happy. We chose the buffet and were disappointed. Eating was not constantly filled up so you had to have luck when it was filled up to get some of it. Even a cozy long meal should not be planned, rather a running buffet, as at 21.30 a.m. the food was already cleared, so hurry. You can't taste it, but it's worth taking buffet again, I think it's not a question for us anymore, but we're going to decide for such food more for other restaurants.
I ate with colleagues. We chose the buffet and were totally enthusiastic. Everything was continuously freshly refilled with a good selection of dishes. Super-friendly operation (even if you extend the opening hours far to the rear). Only recommended! We come back more often.
As drinks we ordered rice wine and water. What bothered me first: Eat the cutlery (knee and fork) covered on the table top and not on serving. The rice wine was unfortunately only lukewarm and not as it should be hot. The menu for 2 people was disappointing. It was served on a round plate and a rectangular stem under it, i.e. a corner of the plate with meat was already cold when serving. This could not be changed logically even when turning around. Meat dishes: duck, chicken and beef were unusable. The additionally ordered baked rice was not baked, but only mixed with some peas and agitators. The service was above all, but I would not recommend the restaurant.
