Bidrage med feedbackMy wife and I have found house exchange to be a great opportunity to spend enough time in an area to get to know an area and its people over two or three weeks instead of just two or three days.... Last August we made an exchange with a family who lived in Leistadt, a charming little village just a short distance from the larger (but not large) town of Bad Durkheim. Leistadt is surrounded by vineyards and wineries, a wonderful opportunity to taste German wines that are not available in the USA. In a house in the village gave us the opportunity to go to several restaurants, one of which is located in the center of the village. There is an indoor restaurant, but since this was August and the weather was nice, we sat outside on both nights that we have dined here. The first night we were there was obvious that we were the only non-German and probably non-Leistadt customers in the restaurant. Lilo was packed when we went to the courtyard in the first night. But that did not seem as important as we were warmly welcomed by the owner, Mr Lilo Drescher, who managed to rebuild the furniture and find a table for us in a short order. We were very quick in conversation with colleagues and ended with a wonderful evening. While Lilo 's not a gourmet restaurant, his food, Jagerschnitzel, Rahmschnitzel and other regional dishes with more than generous portions were equally good. Most of the dishes are stored locally and very fresh. And, as usual, we would like to try new wines from regions and producers that we are not familiar with, so that we had the chance to taste several German red wines that were actually quite good, although Germany is usually intended as a white wine country. (You can see a list of local wineries that Lilo 's offers on [here link]. So if you are near Bad Durkheim, do not hesitate to stop from Lilo 's for a hearty meal and some good local wine.
