Hudson's Fine Hill Country Dining

The restaurant was closed even though OpenTable accepted and confirmed our reservation. We drove 45 minutes to the restaurant only to discover that it was permanently closed. We later found a review on OpenTable from 2 weeks prior stating that the restaurant was already closed. It seems that OpenTable does not communicate with its restaurants effectively.

The wait staff seemed unfamiliar with the menu and wine list. My partner's venison dish was overly breaded, resembling something from IHOP. The vegetables had a canned texture. Overall, the experience was terrible compared to my visit 16 years ago. It is definitely not worth a repeat visit. It is so unfortunate.

Meal was delayed over two hours and wasn't busy. Spouses meals arrived and then other two meals came 10 minutes later. Halibut was way over cooked in pan and required a knife to cut. Filet mignon was cold and had to be returned for reheating. Very loud musical duo in lounge were noisy distraction.

I was hopeful after reading recent reviews that seemed pretty positive. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed on every level: the atmosphere is stale (at best) with zero sound absorption, therefore the noise level is terribly high. The table cloth smelled of rancid cooking oil and the table was old and wobbly. The food was almost inedible due to the salt levels. The plating was a throw-back to the mid-90s (just piles of unattractive food plopped on the plate with an aioli sauce strewn all over). We left most of our food uneaten. I must say, we had a very difficult time paying the $200+ bill. ? Do yourself a favor: avoid this place and instead drive into Austin for a nice meal. Dang it. I really had nigh hopes that Hudson's had been revived!

We just were not impressed with the food. The thing that Hudson's was once known for creative cuisine that pushes the envelope was just not present. We had scallops risotto and pheasant. Both were average and the wine wasn't spectacular either. I still have high hopes because this was once one of my all time favorites, but I'm going to give them some time to figure this out.
