Bidrage med feedbackWe've given Colleen's kitchen a few tries ad 3 of the 4 times the service was terrible. We watched a table seated after us, receive their food before we even ordered. We had to visit the hostess twice to ask for someone to help us at our table. This was around 5pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was less than 1/3 full. I don't think we will return again.
“There is a 20% SERVICE FEE for dining at Colleen’s” This should be noted on the reservation by Colleen’s and Open Table. It’s in fine print at your table -I missed it— highlighted on your bill and followed by an awkward conversation with waitstaff indicating that any “gratuity” left above the “service fee” would go directly to her. WOW! Of course, she was awesome and we left her a gratuity. Not sure if charging a “service fee” plus gratuity to dine in is a new trend in Austin but totally unexpected and left a sour taste. Otherwise, food was good (bacon wrapped dates, crab cakes, beet salad, and shrimp and grits were our favorites) and service was excellent. Mueller was a different area for us to dine in Austin; unlikely we’ll return.
Colleen’s Kitchen was amazing. The ambiance was gorgeous. The food (chicken and and waffles, grilled banana bread, and biscuits) was amazing and our server was spectacular. We’ve been here several times and will continue.
The biscuits, butter, and waffles were amazing! The fried chicken (for the chicken and waffles) was dry. It appears they used breast meat with no bone? The flavor was great, but I would have wished for dark meat or bone in to keep it moist. Services was good and the decor was bright and inviting.
Excellent Southern Comfort Food. Slightly upscaled. Nice ambiance. (THANKFULLY not as loud as many Austin restaurants.)I am definitely returning to try more dishes.
