My very first gyro was in Chania, Souda Bay Crete. IMHO you don't get any more authentic than that and to say that sets the bar high is an understatement! Tonight I'm in Mayport, FL on business and found Olympia Cafe 2550-5 Mayport Rd. Seeing that they had gyros on the menu, I figured I'd give it a shot, expecting that it would not come close to a true Greek gyro. OMG, was I ever wrong, this is absolutely the best gyro I've ever had! The portions are ample, family friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices. This is now a MUST STOP every time I come to town. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed!!
