Kelly's Jamaican Foods - Athens

WARNING! ONCE YOU DINE HERE, YOU'LL WANT TO RETURN EVERY DAY! The food is absolutely amazing. The cornbread is like a delightful dessert, and the chicken is so tender it practically falls off the bone, perfectly seasoned. The patties are incredibly fluffy and generously filled. I can't praise this place enough; everything is delicious. Vegetarian options: veggie plates are available!

It's ironic how some people will advocate for climate issues while dining at a jerk chicken place that uses nothing but styrofoam. It's pretty contradictory! That being said, this place definitely deserves a 5-star rating.

The jerk chicken and spicy cabbage (absolutely the best!!) are perfectly complemented by delicious sweet tea, cornbread, and macaroni and cheese. Just be sure to order at least one dish that isn’t spicy to balance out your meal! The pork is a family favorite, and the oxtail on Fridays is delicious. The portions are generous. As for parking, the lot is shared and can be a bit tight to navigate in and out of.

I ordered a side of curry chicken and a side of rice and peas because they put the jerk chicken in a sauce rather than giving people the option. Not authentic. Also the food is poorly seasoned. No flavor. Way too greasy. The rice is the cheapest rice on the market, of the kind they use in the public schools and they use some tiny beans instead kidney beans or gungu peas. It’s not authentic Jamaican food, but the outdoor patio is nice and appeals to the market. Also I was over charged for sides and not given a receipt. Makes me sad to see my country represented this way. ?
