Wow! The best meal I’ve had in Astoria in a long time I’m a native Astorian. We had the chef special burger the ratatouille tacos. The service is super friendly attentive. The chef serves the food. The ambiance is magical. Thank you Yes Chef!!! I’m looking forward to coming back.
My wife and I were visiting my son who just moved to Astoria and were looking for a good local restaurant. Yes Chef was fantastic. Most importantly the food was delicious. My son is a vegetarian and he loved the ratatouille taco. Good selection of wines in my opinion. We went with the Redentore Refosco 2013. Service was friendly but not pushy.
Unbelievably fantastic risotto and house wine. Let Chef do his thing on the specials, and you will be amazed. Great hospitality.
1 star review for the overall experience. My girlfriend and I came in after a long flight for something to eat and drink. When asked what kind of wine we wanted. We were given a wine lesson and a sample of another, after answering with exactly what we wanted right away. This was both by our waiter and then again my another member of the staff. When asking about food. We were told that not everything was available but then can make some things. The waiter then verbally listed the whole menu. We then were greeted by the chef/owner who introduced himself as such. After telling him what we wanted he tried to convince us to get an appetizer and split a dinner which we didn’t want to do. He also said that we needed to get vegetables in our gnocchi because they are good for you. After pushing the truffle fries on us and being rejected, he then gave us the truffle fries anyway. The waiter continually hovered around us and started far reaching conversations. For the most part behind my back and speaking only to my girlfriend. The chef offered us cheese and then made the uncomfortable mention that he would not charge us like other restaurants. The owner also hovered continuously and asked if “we liked that ****”.All we wanted was a nice quiet meal with some good food. Honestly, the food and the wine was great, but, after sending multiple signals that we just wanted to enjoy our meal, the slimy staff continuously tried to upsell us and interject in our experience. The waiter made one last ditch effort stating “we should just get really drunk to help our jet lag”.I also think we were most definitely overcharged for the whole meal. Even if we weren’t, the staff made me feel as if I was swindled.
