As for the calamari, it honestly tasted like imitation meat. It was really thick and lacked the thin, delicate texture and flavor that I always look forward to in calamari. I do NOT recommend the alligator or the frog legs. We ordered them just to try something different, but the alligator was completely inedible and tasted terrible. The frog legs were chewy, but they were still much better than the alligator. Even so, I can't recommend either, especially since both dishes cost $7.50 each for what felt like a very small portion. That said, I think you'll have a better experience if you stick to the more traditional and familiar options.
I was craving for seafood while visiting Astoria and came to try their food here. The customers have the option to sit outside and enjoy fresh air or eat inside (which we did). They also have a separate bar area. I love love love their fresh seafood! Myboyfriend and I got their crab platter and their bowl of steamers. We were stuffed! ???? We got the Mai Tai for our drinks plusthe oyster shooters which we love as well! Definitely recommend this place!
Used to be my favorite restaurant in the coast. Brought many visitors over there. Back then, they have a male chef and the place was a hole in the wall but food was delicious. Today, it is beautifully remodeled but food is lousy. The clam chowder has chunksof Boba like pieces which resulted from it adding cornstarch directly into the chowder instead of premixing the cornstarchsolution and pour into the chowder to thicken it). Or if this is plan to reduce the potatoes pieces. Either way, badrecipe. Another weird taste was we clearly ordered 2lbs of steamers clam only. But we were served with steamer clams mixed withcrawlfish and the taste was completely different and clams overcooked. Very disappointing and has no plan to return.
Tammy was our server and bartender, and she was fantastic. We live in Ocean Park and have been wanting to try Hurricane Ron's, but we've never been able to find parking—until today! The Hurricane chowder is huge and incredibly delicious, packed with shrimp, crab, and clams. My husband ordered the elk burger and was very pleased with it. We will definitely be returning! Thank you for the wonderful food and service!
