Bidrage med feedbackThis was the best Sunday roast I have had in a long time. The staff were friendly, though they could be a bit nicer. The venue was clean and pleasant, but not particularly amazing. The food was delicious and I will definitely be coming back. The prices were great and the service was efficient.
Bit disappointing. Sat in open marquee, aside to car park. Fumes from a smoker and car exhaust not great. Inside pub looked lovely and cosy though. Service not great. Asked for second set of drinks not received so asked again. Same with desserts. Nut roast for veggie was very disappointing spicy slop. 3 in party were happy with their meat roasts, but not so with desserts cold custard and small portions. Note NHS discount only for person eating, even if paying bill for whole family. May try again, as could have been a one off, but not for Sunday roast.
Despite its proximity to our home, we were surprised that we had never visited the Rose and Crown before. If we hadn't seen that they had mussels on the menu, we may never have discovered this gem. The Rose and Crown was a pleasant surprise - clean, welcoming, and spacious. The atmosphere felt like a family affair, with the landlord's mother greeting us as we were seated at the front of the restaurant. The menu offered a variety of dishes, and our starters of mussels and bacon-wrapped king prawns were deliciously cooked. For our main courses, we chose Skate Wing and Battered Cod, both of which were extremely tasty. The Skate Wing was particularly outstanding and disappeared quickly. Although we couldn't finish all the Cod due to being full from the mussels, we left satisfied. We will definitely be returning to the Rose and Crown as it is conveniently located just five miles from Chelmsford, easy to find, and reasonably priced.
The staff was very friendly, the roast was exceptional, and you could tell that the meat was sourced locally. The roast potatoes and gravy were the best I've ever had. To top it off, the Eton Mess was superb.
Visited the restaurant for lunch this week as part of the dine out deal. Both service and food was exceptional. We hadn’t booked, but could see there was quite a few tables free outside. Although they were more than happy for us to come in, I’ll be sure to book next time. Social distancing was excellent, with a outside order/pay point during peak periods. Also have to say what a fab job they’ve done with the outside space they had. Service was very prompt and friendly and the food was to their usual high standards. Have visited a few country pubs during the dine out deal and have to say this has been the most organised one we’ve been to so far. Will definitely be visiting again.
