40 Arpent Brewery - Arabi

Came here last weekend completely on a whim. My guy's band was playing a block away, and as friends and I were driving by we thought we'd pop in for a drink. We didn't even know the place existed (we're Uptowners) and it was an immediate draw from the street. The bartender let us know that they had only been open a short time, so I was pretty surprised at how busy they were! I guess the word is out. Lots of seating indoors and a few tables outside. We bellied up to the bar and ordered a few beers. I got the Orange Blossom Opossum ale. An orange honey ale, and probably their lightest beer. It was smooth and orangey, definitely a fan. They have three different sizes that you can order, all were easy on the wallet at 3, 4, and 5 bucks. I'd love to return for a tour and to see what they come up with next!

Wow....not a little wow....a HUGE wow. This is exactly what a brewery should be. Excellent, full taste beer, home town, family run, friendly atmosphere, great friends, all the things. Wow. Upon walking in, you get warmly greeted and offered THREE free beer samples and a tour. We spent so much time just chatting with the brewer (Charles) that we became fast friends. Beers I tried: Milk Stout!! Holy hell. This is a delicious, lactose beer. I couldn 't be happier. Wow. Duckweed: Perfectly hopped, airy, easy to drink. Delacroix: Sweet, the non-beer drinkers beer. Copasaw: A German Dunkle. Lives up to its tradition. Felt like I needed a beer wench outfit on. Apparently it 's been adopted by the Deutsches Haus as their house beer! We got *the best* beer tour I 've ever had. The master brewer went into the chemistry and really made us feel a part of the brewing process. I was delighted! There 's a wonderful comfort to this spot, non pretentious, kinda like your parents garage or a cul de sac from a coming of age movie. It 's easy to be there, drink beer, and share stories. I was only there for 2 hours and I already feel like family. Good brews and good times!!!

We stopped by 40 Arpent for an afternoon drink (which turned into two... or three... and wound up spending an entire afternoon early evening at this lovely little place. On a sunny afternoon, time can quickly pass you by here! Both of the bartenders that we had during our time here were friendly, cheery, and offered us samples of the various brews on tap. I ended up alternating between the Duckweed and the Orange Blossom both were delicious, but I think the Duckweed was my favorite. I also tried a sip of their spicy Mexican Chocolate brew, which definitely had a great kick to it it's not the type of beer I would typically opt to have an entire glass of, but I'd absolutely recommend it if you like dark beers with great flavor. The prices were right too $5 for a 16oz glass. What we loved most about this place was the great location, right on the river while the river isn't immediately visible from the seating area, a quick walk across the street will give you a terrific view of it. We were able to witness and beautiful sunset, a big cruise ship sailing by, and lots of smaller ships passing us as well. The bartender cooked up some delicious popcorn for us all, and we also got the chance to meet and talk to some of the locals who were over here for an afternoon drink. This place definitely has that down to earth, neighborly feel to it. The outdoor tables were a little strangely high compared to the low seated chairs, but we were still able to get comfortable enough to enjoy multiple glasses. The only slight bummer we encountered was that they were out of the coconut lime brew (which sounded positively delightful! . I hope they bring it back again! I definitely will make it a point to come back here the next time I'm in New Orleans and I'd love to do the actual brewery tour sometime.

Great little brewery. We had two free tickets (2 free beers each! we received from the West Bank Beer Fest, so we thought we might as well check it out. It's tucked away in a nice spot right across from the levee in Arabi in St. Bernard Parish, just bordering the Ninth Ward. This place has a great outdoor space and an even better indoor space. It's so clean and looks brand new. They have board games and a shuffle board, and of course an awesome selection of beer. The Duckweed and the Orange Blossom O-Possom are two of their best beers, but I heard the stout is incredible. We had a chance to meet the brewer, Charles, who showed us around and gave us the lowdown on their brewing process. Turns out they have brewing equipment from a East End Brewery in Pittsburgh (where I'm from! The staff is friendly, the place is chill, and they schedule food pop ups weekly. There's always something going on here, pay them a visit!

Good people and great beer. Have been stopping by on Friday evenings for the brewery tour. Good selection of their beers on tap along with a food truck incase you get hungry. They have a great view of the river and the Nola skyline at sunset. I suggest you do yourself a favor and drop in for some great beers and sit by the levee and watch the sunset. Can't wait for them to complete their taproom!
