Cold Stone Creamery - Ankeny

We love Cold Stone. At first we always notice when we go in, that the place is pretty clean and tidy. For the good stuff. My wife usually gets the chocolate devotion, and I get either a chocolate malt, or as on this last occasion, a Granny Smith Caramel Apple with Peanuts. Yeah, they even cut it for you if you want. There are places to sit outside when the weather permits. And... the toilets are usually quite neat! If you follow me, you know that we travel in detail, and I make point resting in many of my reviews. Just as important as the food they serve. Good work, Cold Stone in Prairie Trail area! We enjoyed this visit so much, we came back the following day!

The ice cream was just okay. There wasn't a lot of variety without the mix-ins. It’s worth trying once, but I likely wouldn’t go back.

Have you ever felt rushed and like you're holding up the line right when you step up to the counter? That's exactly how I felt at this place. The staff, mostly young kids, lack basic customer service skills. They approach you and bluntly ask what you want, rolling their eyes if you don't immediately specify a size. When I visited with my family of five (three kids), we felt like we were inconveniencing them just by trying to decide what everyone wanted after reaching the counter. To make matters worse, they couldn't even fulfill our order correctly. I ended up paying around $35-40 for ice cream. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is that the brownie was quite good.
