Lovely ambience with good food caring staff ! Enjoyed my sizzler alot
We were on our way back from Chandigarh when we stopped at the restaurant with a group of 10 people for lunch. It was a suggestion from a friend so we decided to try it out. They have a nice Private Dinning Area which we choose as we were a big group. Amongst the things we tried were their sizzlers, which were amazing and the portion size was huge. We also had the Angara Murg and Tandoori Chicken for starters and the Kala Khata drink just hit the spot. The mains were the Chooza Khas and Dal Makhani. Some of us also tried their continental mains and pasta and they said it was nice (even though I personally only had Indian). For a perfect ending we had the phirni, death by chocolate and the sizzling brownie. My favorite was the sizzling brownie with ice-cream.The only little drawback was one of the guy serving us was a little lost and slow but as soon as we pointed out, they replaced him after which all was good. All in all it was a great meal and very different from the typical highway meal of burgers, subs or the dhaba food. A refreshing change I must say.
Coming from Chandigarh side to Ambala, the moment you cross the big curvy flyover, you can't miss this yellow/golden huge building on your left side next to a petrol pump which has a KFC, Subway and this restaurant Cafe Royal nestled in the left corner of the building. The Black and Golden colour scheme and the overall branding of this restaurant intrigued us to give it a try. Though we were sceptical given our previous experiences with 'Cafes' on the highway. We were pleasantly surprised with the quirky and feel good ambiance. The staff welcomed us with a smile. We were told that this restaurant earlier operated somewhere inside the Ambala city and had recently shifted base to the Highway. Someone from the owner's family was also overlooking the operations who suggested us to try their sizzlers. Honestly we thought we would be extremely disappointed as sizzlers is a thing only 'proper' restaurants can get right. I mean what all can you really expect from a highway restaurant. Anyway we went on to order a Non Veg Sizzler (Indiana Jones), a Veg Sizzler (Cottage Cheese), a Chicken Gravy Dish (Choosa Khas) and Naans just to be safe with the Indian food in case the sizzlers failed. To our utter surprise the Sizzlers were AMAZING. Definitely in the top 3 sizzlers I have had in all of Delhi and Chandigarh (and I am a big foodie). The sauce was just right. The portions were huge, the chicken was tender and the cottage cheese was fresh and literally melting in your mouth and the bed of rice perfectly seasoned. Sooo good that we barely had the chicken and naans which we later got packed and relished the day after. Special mention to the Olive Naan and Cheese Garlic Naan. They are a must try if you only stick to Indian food.Overall, a must stop for all road trippers who are crossing Ambala. Quick service considering a 'proper' restaurant. I am guessing that is necessary for highway travelers. The food was quite reasonable priced which was a cherry on the cake.
This is a great restaurant with a cozy and cool atmosphere. The walls are decorated with photo frames that transport you back to Ambala in the 19th century. The service is fast and friendly, and they offer both Indian and continental cuisine. On average, you can expect to spend around 500 to 600 rupees per person with a moderate appetite.
