Bidrage med feedbackMyself and my husband visit Amarante every year and have done for the last 9 years...we always head for Estotil as soon as we arrive and will often opt for this family rin restaurant twice during our stay...this time however the service was surly as if they were doing us a favour ..we asked for cheese and ham along with a salad to start and couldn't believe how tiny the portion size was ..when we requested more it was met with a look.My main meal sea bass was tiny and overcooked ...we will now not return to Estoril to eat when we return to Amarante and that's a shame as we like to support family run businesses...noted also not a greeting or a smile from any of the staff..there are many places to eat in Amarante that are pleased with your business
Already visited this restaurant several times and will come back as Mandy timers as possible. honest local kitchen. fish, meat, tappas, excellent local wines. very friendly staff. sit on the balcony outside and enjoy the view. the bill is low for a nice place like this.
Cannot fault the service very attentive and prompt service. Starters were good but main course, (1 veal, I cod) was very mediocre, especially the cod which seemed to be overcooked.The creme brulee was probably the worst I have ever been served hot, liquid creme and caramel topping burned to a cinder by over zealous application of blowtorch! The location is superb we were here just as the sun set and the lights came on to illuminate the bridge. Sitting on the verandah outside this has to be the best view of the famous Amarante bridge.
The restaurant seemed to be family run, some of whom were engrossed in Portuguese football which was on tv in the corner. Although we could have eaten on a covered terrace over the river it was cold and wet so we stayed indoors. There was a good choice of meat dishes, pork, lamb and a casserole with beans, sausage, cabbage, rice. Smaller portions were available, good if you’d filled up with bread!
Have not been in Amarante for 18 year and boy has it changed. From a small charming river town to a bustling river town. The old area is still charming but you can see the tourist effect has hit. I am pleased to say that most restaurants seem to have resisted the urge to overcharge. We stopped here not on recommendations but because we liked the menu do dia offering. Got a nice table overlooking the river. Waiter brought bread and olives to the table...beware you will pay for them if you eat them. Having said that the olives were great and at 1.20 euros it is well worth it. We had roasted chicken, bacalao all served with rice, green beans, cabbage and roasted potatoes and bachalitos (cod cakes). 3 small beers, 1 white wine, 1 white port and a double coffee for just 32 Euros. Service is like most of Portugal...rather slow but as my wife keeps telling me we are on vacation ....just wish my beer came faster!
