Second time at Taverna do Guedes and every bit as good as before. Unusually the restaurant was pretty quiet but that didn’t matter as the ambiance was still lovely and they gave us a lovely table for2 beside the stairs. We both had soup and for mains my wife had prawns with boiled potatoes and I had my usual piri piri with fries. Everything was great and the service was first class. We had a half bottle of wine and I had 2 pints and the bill came to a very reasonable €42 euros. When in Alvor again this restaurant will one of our first ports of call
This is a lovely, family-run restaurant located just off one of the the main thoroughfares in Alvor on a small, quiet side-street. Service is friendly and efficient and the restaurant itself has an authentic Portuguese nautical feel to it. Booking is advised as it is popular with tourists and locals alike. We preferred the upstairs area as it seemed a little cooler, benefitting from a slight breeze when we were there. Food was excellent (the Golden Bream was superb) and we enjoyed the house-branded wine. Very good value considering it is just off the main drag and we will be heading back to try their fish cataplana.
Bland and overpriced. We had octopus salad which was very vinegary, garlic and Piri piri pawns good but digestive tract not renoved. We then had the Portuguese steak, turned up looking grey and overcooked, and the cataplana fish which was totally bland. Incredibly disappointing. 150 euros
A bit under whelmed if I'm honest. Tried a variety of dishes and not anything like the top reviewed places. Sorry, we may have just had a bad night, but I wouldn't return.
