Nou Palas - Alicante

A bit of a pretentious restaurant menu rang bells for me but my wife was not deterred. The starters were expensive and average. The mains were very poor. My choice of rice octopus allowed me a half dozen thin slices. The rice was so poor I couldn’t finish it – rarely seen before. It was as if a ‘British’ restaurant meal was served – poor and overpriced. The other main of steak was well below par. A small beer and wine plus these two courses came to €45. We were out in less than an hour. Avoid.

It was lunch time when we came across this restaurant. It looked inviting from the outside so we decided to try El Menu del Dia. Usually we have no problem with Spanish menus but this time we did not look very closely at what was on offer. The starter was delicious small stuffed peppers. We were quite surprised when the main course arrived to see a whole pigs trotter filling the plate. Once we got over our astonishment we found that it was rather good. The dish was very tasty and well flavoured. The puddings were a fitting end to the meal. Excellent wine and service.

Excellent service atmosphere and food. Win win all the way around. My husband had the menu of the day which he loved and I chose la carta and has fresh salad and fish! Delicious.
