Taqueria Picoso - Alexandria

Went here for the first time and sat at the bar. The bar tender Johnny was very nice and patient. He explained to us how everything works as this was the first time we had visited this restaurant. He explained that everything was a la carte and that we would have to dress our tacos ourselves (i.e. onions, cilantro, salsa, etc. . I appreciated his thorough explanation as it gave us an idea of what to expect. We ordered the family style tacos for two as it was a much better deal and mexican rice and beans and the fish taco as it was featured in PBS. Let me start off by talking about the fish taco. It may have been their “featured taco” but it was just okay in my books. It had too much kale and lacked flavor overall. Same feedback for rice and beans. They tried to over complicate rice and beans in my opinion. It did not have enough salt and was lackluster. We had to add salt and a bunch of their taqueria salsa to make it palatable. The family style tacos were alright too. Enough meat for 4 people to eat (so of course we took the rest home . Lastly their elotes… I’ll say those were pretty good, but I have had better at taco bamba. Unfortunately it wasnt a great taco experience for us… not coz of the atmosphere but more because the food lacked flavor.

The good:-Tasty margaritas, good atmosphere, quick serviceThe bad:-Poor customer service ordered something, wrong item was brought out, cashier claimed that was not what we ordered)-Tacos are average. Al pastor is nearly flavorless, and the meat is dry. Carne asada taco was okay, nothing to write home about. Queso was overpriced $11) and bland, only comes with 8 or so homemade tostadas to dip with.I usually like to give places a 2nd chance before writing them off but this place left much to be desired. Do yourself a favor and go to Tacos Bamba down the road instead.

So glad to have my favorite taco place Taqueria Picoso added to my “local favorite” gift card bouquet during our fundraising event!! Thank you again for your support to the community, Taqueria Piscoso!! You are always my #1 taco spot!!

I’ve been looking for a good Mexican food place for awhile. My wife and I stumbled upon this place and it was absolutely amazing! The food was outstanding! Can’t wait to go back!

Taqueria Picoso has an awesome atmosphere and the staff are friendly. The drink and tacos need some improvement. The tacos don't really have any flavor. We tried 6 different tacos meats, all the tacos meat lacked the taste of the spices.
