Southside 815 - Alexandria

The Frickles were a delightful twist, made with bread and butter pickles instead of the traditional dill. It was a pleasant surprise, and I couldn't stop eating them! They were crispy, salty, sweet, and tangy all at once! The low country shrimp and sausage were equally fantastic, and the peach pound cake was the perfect sweet ending to a wonderful meal!

If you live south of Alexandria (in places like Lorton or Woodbridge), treat yourself by taking a drive down Route 1. Turn right onto Mt. Vernon Hwy, then follow Route 400 for a scenic route to Southern 815. As Route 400 turns into S. Washington Street, you’ll discover this gem on your left. They claim to have the best Catfish Po' Boy this side of the Mississippi, and I’m inclined to believe it. The French roll was incredibly soft and flaky, while the catfish was fried to a perfect crisp and lightly seasoned, allowing the delicate flavor to shine through.

This restaurant is definitely one of my top five favorites in the DMV area. I've been a regular since 2001, and it has truly stood the test of time. Although I don't sit at the bar as often as I did in my twenties, they still have some of the friendliest bartenders around. Nowadays, I visit with my family for dinner. Most recently, we came here to celebrate my birthday, and we had a wonderful time. The service was fantastic—friendly and attentive. Our dinner was superb, and we kicked things off with the pulled pork.

I had high expectations for this restaurant. The service was acceptable, but it didn't stand out, especially for New Year's Eve. I ordered the Charleston Chicken, but when it arrived, it looked quite unappetizing. I ended up swapping it for their delicious Jambalaya chicken cheesesteak, which was much better.

This place in Old Town is fantastic! The pulled pork nachos are simply incredible.
